I sat on my Superhawk in my nice warm basement and made "engine" noises.

No lines for them yet. The place here in town that makes them is closed until Jan 2nd or 3rd. I will post some up with a report on how they work. After coming from Yamaha for so many years, I'm not used to shitty brakes. Using a 2003 CBR600RR M/C with them, I bought the whole setup from one of my racing buddies old F4i's.

Started Swing Arm Mod

Started the swing arm brace mod...

Cutting the early model 900RR "Box Style" brace from the 900rr arm.

I'll make the caliper strut mount today, then waiting on a VTR swing arm to come in the mail next few days

Did 300 Klm's yesterday and almost got knocked of the bike twice by crazy holiday drivers.

Very lucky both times.

Have now ordered an airhorn from Ebay.

Hope it works!!!!!

First ride - news year day

New Year's Day and I got to take my first ride on my 2002 red SH since getting it 2 days ago.
It couldn't have gone better!!!
About 68 degrees F here in NorCal,
mountain twisties from about 1,100 ft up 3,000 ft and back.
It's been awhile since I've been on a sport bike but it was so easy and neutral to ride. Doesn't matter much what gear going in or coming out of the turns...shifts like butter.
Lots of fun!
I'm excited and glad I found this very clean bike on craigslist for $2600 with Arai helmet, gloves and jacket.

Hey Maicomeister,

Good news that you enjoyed your bike.

Give it time and you will find things wrong- That's the bad news, the good thing is you can fix them.

The best thing about our bikes is that you can tailor them to suit yourself.

Will be interested in what you do in the future!

P.S You got, A bargain so you can afford a little bit of expense to get it to where you want it.

Have fun!!!!!

ive been fooling around with a home made battery just like those Lithium ones from A123 etc.
soldering 2 R/C battery packs in serial manner and tested it on the hawk...
and she completely drained the whole pack on cold start,

but now the pack doesnt hold it's charge so good anymore dont know if it was because off the hawk pulling to much amps or both are bad packs wich can happen because where very cheap... a well gonna use it as a jump pack for the hawk or as battery pack on my GSXR because it weighs only 623 grams
to make it short : cheap **** rarely works !!!

Went for another ride and whilst at it called into the local exhaust shop to get a link pipe welded up.

Whilst there asked the guy if he could make me a new set of engine pipes and was really surprised when he showed an interest.

Will eventually remove engine pipes and get him to use them as a pattern.

Bigger bore is what a I am after here.

Rc51

LOL..
Thanks Kenmore!
Now you got me thinking that maybe I and a lot of these other guys should just get an RC51???
A little more more up front but they come upgraded as far as I can tell.
Or the stock SH becomes a frakenbike with a lot of time and extra money in it.
They are all good!!!

Well, I didn't ride. The winter here in Minnesota is brutal this year. Usually there is some sort of thaw, and the roads are well enough to ride, but no dice this year so far.

I did do a little admin'ing on the Honda Superhawk facebook page though. :-)

Feel free to check it out and "like" it.

Well a steering damper is defo on my list after the ride I went for this arvo!

Going uphill at 9/10ths hard in 3rd gear about 160klms and the head starts shaking.

Reminded me of my dirt bike days.

Changed up a gear and all was well, but wasn't expecting that to happen.

Ride the road a lot and never happened before.

I got my detented steering head bearings replaced with All ***** tapered roller types. While we were at it, I got the Heli-Bars finally put on as well. The steering is so much more responsive now that it's a night and day difference. I couldn't feel the detent in the bearings but it really made the steering feel like it was binding up.
Unfortunately, I didn't get much of a ride in as the sun was setting and the temps were plummeting. Let's hope that our sunny clear weather holds out through tomorrow so I can really put some miles on the bike and finally sample that legendary VTR handling.

Fixed that ^ for ya.
I agree though, that was the first mod I did to my VTR and I certainly felt the difference on the first ride!

Colder than yesterday. Spent the first half of the day in the garage bobbing the rear fender waiting for the day to warm up. I relocated the license plate light up to just below the reflector and trimmed the fender off on a line just below the turn-signals. Not quite as smooth a look as an undertail kit, but definitely less clunky than the stock fender.
Went out for a ride at 2:30 pm but the roads were still icy in the shadows. After scaring myself silly I rode back home. Isn't it Spring yet?
I agree Wolverine, the steering almost feels squirrelly quick after getting used to how sluggish the bike was to turn previously.

Had a brake line made locally today and combined it with a brand new Spiegler kit for a 2009 600RR I picked up for $40 from a friend. I used the over fender from the Spiegler and the new line for the Gixxer calipers and I will use the other Spiegler line for the rears. Need some warmer weather now so I can test it out. Also picked up a longer M6x1.00 bolt for mounting the R6 R/R I installed around Christmas. Coming up next I will drop one of the seats off and have it redone to my liking and will probably remove the GenMar risers from the bike.

Nice! I grew up in Lancaster, just south of Dallas. Sometimes I miss it, but I can't leave these mountains.

Rode to work and back, beautiful weather.

As luck would have it rain started just as I got home.

I plugged mine into the battery tender because I'm waiting on exhaust gaskets to arrive.

Thumbs up

New to my Hawk - I fitted Goodridge hoses and a 600Fi MC to firm up the brakes - fitted the Krieger MCCT's and then had a great scratch over to a lovely seaside village called Akaroa.

I took Scarlett for a gallop this morning after refitting the original mufflers to see if that "fixed" a lack of bottom end.
I hadn't ridden the VTR with the originals fitted and I'm happy to report she runs and pulls 100% better with the stockers on so that gives me a pointer to what I need to do to run the open mufflers. Bigger jets!!! and better breathing all round. She didn't run perfectly today and still has a 3,000rpm surge issue but thats probably a TPS and throttle balance issue and easy to fix.
Anyway here's Scarlett is in the Australian Summer.

We had a beautiful sunny day in the 50s here in Washington state. I took my longest ride on the Hawk to date. It was great to just purr along Highway 9 and listen to the engine. I found myself cruising in 4th just to hear the bike. There were a LOT of bikes out today!
The Hawk treated me to a new quirk. Twice it make a pop on the intake side of the engine. Is that the Pair valves misbehaving? I've already had the stoplight stall once so I'll chalk this up to V-twin character. The bike seems to run strong otherwise. It's fun to toss it around the new roundabouts the state has been putting in everywhere.

Robert, you just experienced a "Carb Fart". Search for it, I'm not making that term up.

Got off the bike after a shot ride and noticed my right boot was wet. Turns out it was a coolant leak. Thought the water pump had taken a ****. After looking more closely it was the hose clamp on the bottom of the right radiator. Did a recent coolant change and must not have tightened enough.

Rode mine to work in 22 degrees c temp.

Just right.

Looking forward to the trip home, and straffing a few cars on the famous Kiama bends.

Have to be careful though as we have a double demerit points system in place because of Australia Day Long Weekend.
