Finally went on a real ride this year!
Its not that I wont scrub in that last inch its that I cant. Ive got about a whole five inches before my knee would even start to scrape. Its not really for bragging rights but the skill. I can brag about being able to ride these sweet mountain roads and an awesome highway. I just want to be able to say I did it. also Isn't not using the last of the tire kind of a waste economy wise? My car tires always look like beat up banana peals when I toss em but when I saw the wear pattern I realized I never used the potential. I hate not being able. Either way I am getting much more stable and the bike feels more like a ride on the amusement park than a man sized bicycle.
Looking for a 1000rr front end and 41t sprocket for the rr rim. I still can not believe how much of a performance gain stock gearing is. especially after having to go back to 40t with my rim swap. I am betting once I get the suspension cured and the bike balanced up that will help.
Rain today so no progress and golden week so I been unable to do real work on the bike. Ill throw some pictures of that tank up. Its nearly ready to be put together sanded and sealed.
Edit: I just want to add that I am so happy that this bike can go off the pavement wihtout issue.

I finally got the dear old beast started yesterday for the first time this year. It had refused to start last winter. The weather was pretty bad up here so I left the bike for Spring.
Thanks to all the forum members for your great posts. I replaced what I thought was the problem, the R/R with a new FH020 unit thanks to the great photo instructions by Tweety, or was it Wicky? Both of you guys are great and very helpful. My reluctance about doing it myself dropped to zero once I saw how easy it was.
Eventually I found out the problem was the battery. I had killed it with kindness leaving it on the charger all winter long. Again, it took a mention of this not being a good thing on the forum to set me straight. My not so smart "smart charger" kept telling me the battery was good and I figured it was the R/R dragging it down until I dropped in the new one.
A new battery and the bike started right up. Damn it was good to ride her again. Again a big thanks to all you guys for sharing your experience and expertise.

Took a quick 300 mile spin today, riding along the wisconsin river alphabet soup style (anyone know what that means?) I couldn't find a road I didn't like! Went home did a burnout and threw a new rear tire on.

Changed the oil in celebration of another 5,000 miles enjoyed aboard "The Mistress". 65,000 and counting! Also changed all of the fuses, they were all fine but as far as I know they were the original ones from '98.

Have to know my back-story Xeris! My favorite bike ever was my VTR1000, but totaled by a drunk driver a few years ago. Upgraded to a CBR1000RR, and a member of the forum, but the CBR site is not nearly as fun and informative as my SuperHawk chums! Have been busy in the cave,
Fitted new tyres, changed oil and filter, fitted Jack Flash fuel screws and choke fittings and will do the valves and adjust CCTs.
Might even check the TPS and sync the carbs.
Haven't done the valve shims for 26,000 Klms and they seem tight.
Quality parts there Jack !
Another set of Bridgestone S21 tyres, just love them.
Now waiting for a shim kit to turn up. Still have to take the front cover off.
Lots to do !

Installed New shifter from DMr. Was hoping that it would improve the feel, but didn't really think it would be noticeable. It is quite an improvement. I'm very pleased with the look and feel. Money well spent!

Bike is back together now and only carb sync to do. Had two loose inlets on the front.
Wish the hot cams kit had .025 shims but hey the ticking noise is now gone.
Going for a ride to scrub the new rubber in.
Might even post pics .

Maybe. What it means for me is now I have to install a shifter star kit. Can't stop at half ***.
Oh, and after wasting time trying to get the customer rep at Revzilla to help track down availability of replacement sleeve kits for an Akro exhaust system I did what I should have done in the first place and emailed Akropovic for the info. One email and a day and a half later I have the answer.
After five emails, the final answer from Revzilla:
Hi David,
We received some information from Akrapovic regarding your earlier questions. We were able to confirm that either sleeve kit will include the sleeve itself, rivets, and two exhaust bands. However, we were not able to confirm the exact dimensions of any of the pieces. The schematics are no longer available and Akrapovic was not able to send them to us.
If there is anything else we can help you with just let us know.

You can determine which exhaust you have by measuring the length of the sleeve.
S-H10S1RT-T has 430mm long sleeves, reference number for sleeve kit for left and right muffler is P-RKS45T43.
S-H10S1-T has a 470mm long sleeves, reference number for sleeve kit for left and right muffler is P-RKS45T47.
Both sleeve kits are still available and can be ordered separately.

Went for a reserved ride over some nearby mountain roads to scrub the tyres in.
Bike is back to it's best and due to two front inlet valves being loose it is much quieter in the engine and is performing like it should.
All up worth the effort involved.
New oil and filter, adjusted valves and checked tensioners , installed the Jack parts and sync'ed the carbs.
A full clean as well !
Going to check the steering stem bearings that were fitted with the new front end now.
It never ends with these bikes but boy do they return it in spades!

Another long ride today with my brother on his TLS Suzook.
Now that the tires are scrubbed in and a few tweaks with Jacks mixture screws my bro commented on how well the VTR goes. All I saw all day was his lights in the mirrors, actually had to slow down a couple of times to let him catch up.
The USD conversion is the reason, very confidence inspiring and new tire help as well.
Fuel economy is still a sticking point , however I guess I can't have it all.
200 Klms and running on fumes, just made it to the fuel stop !
A great day out and justification for my effort with this bike.

Installed a set of freshly repacked, cleaned and polished V&H cans.
Still waiting for replacement sleeves for the Akro system I have waiting, which I'll swap in when they arrive in 5-8 weeks.
I did not expect to like the V&H cans. Thought they would be much too loud and wasn't really liking the longer than stock length and the "double barrel" tips. As it turns out I think they look just fine, good even. While loud, the tone is very deep and throaty. It's silly that I'm getting such a thrill from loud pipes.
The mind dyno says that the throttle is a bit sharper in response, a bit more power, especially in the 4-5k rpm range where before it felt a bit soft. The other noticeable effect is the loss of some engine braking. This last effect seems real and not just imagined.
