Your Opinion.. Best bike service.

Hi Forum, I got my Superhawk about a year ago and I love it. I've had several bikes before. This one is the best by far. Its a 2002 VTR-1000. The only one I've seen around my area. Its the one with the digital odometer. To make a long story short. I got it from a friend that had it parked for almost a year, had to get a new battery and clean fuel to get it running. It has about 14,000 miles on it. I used seafoam on the fuel and it runs good. They only issue im having the the poping from the exaust when I decelerate from high RPM and it would not start without the choke at all even on a warm day or after the engine being off for 30mins. It also idles funny when cold. I know it due for a service but I need some advices about what to service, I called around and honda dealer sugested an oil change.. I know its going to take more than an oil change. So im up for sugestions.... Thanks

Jon

Carbs gone though and cleaned.. If I were doing it, I would order new pilot jets and just replace them, clening them is not worth my time.

Then reinstall, check for vac leaks, use fresh fuel and sync the carbs.

Check & replace the airfilter, Check if the carbs are back seated correctly, and poke around for airleaks in the intake / exhaust system. Replace spark plugs.

Was it rejetted to suit the exhaust cans?

Download the PDF Honda VTR service manual and save yourself some money when giving it a thorough servicing.

+1 that area looks green, so you're not near me; you may be near someone who can walk you through some stuff...

You have that spring weight set up for rider #1 or rider #2? Rider #1 seems to have the matching outfit....

I see the after market exaust . Did the pair get removed? The poping on the deceleration sounds like it has not been blocked off

hahah..@7moore7 Rider #1 can reach the throttle yet.. Im in anaheim, CA. bike was top notch before sleeping for almost a year, my buddy used to take it to a retired honda mechanic and he did all the work on it. He replace the chain tentioner before the stock one did its damage. Cans were professionally installed and bike was jetted to perfection. The only reason my buddy stopped riding cos he messed up his back at work. The year the bike spent in hibernation he kept it in the garage and started it every week.. So it wasnt that bad for the bike. It only has 15k miles. Dont get me wrong for the year it has it runs awesome. Its quick, smooth, and very torquie.. lol I want to keep it that way. I service my car and truck every 4 months and I havent done anything to my bike in a year, I just gas it up and go... Thanks for the replies. I dont really want to mess with it, I have taken the fender out to clean them but not messed with anything else. I do have a little bit of experience. I took my 2005 yamaha carbs apart and clean the yets and stuff... but with my SH I wouldnt know where to start or what kind of jets to get..

Like I said, I do know a little bit about these bikes, so if you need something done, let me know and we can work something out.
