Forks got new bushings, seals, oil, and springs. Oil level was > 100 ml low in each tube, and after nearly tucking the front in a favorite turn last week, I had to get into them and check things out. It was also dark grey and left sludge. It was replaced with 5W Race Tech oil I happened to have in inventory. Springs of unknown stiff rate weren't working in harmony with the stock shock, so I replaced them with stock springs out of a former VFR-750, which are just a tad stiffer then stock VTR springs (0.70kg/mm vs. 0.56 kg/mm), and seem to work well after a quick static sag setup and test ride.

Love the feeling on the first ride after a rebuilt fork set. Almost as good as fresh doughnuts! Is that RT oil spendy? I settled on Silkolene for the VTR.

It was $15/qt. I had a quart and change left over from my VFR rebuild some years back, and YES, it's a huge difference. There are a couple sets of curves near my house that are great for testing suspension, complete with bumps throughout in both directions. Went through those at a good clip with good tracking and no drama a few times today and made rebound changes sitting at the stop sign until I was happy.

Getting ever closer! I finally fitted the top front fairing onto my straightened top mount. I got all the signals working although the fronts are flashing faster than the rears, but I can live with that for the moment. I'll get the windscreen fitted this weekend. I'm waiting on my CBR1K kickstand to come back from my welder. Few more odds and ends then I'll get it fired up and the carbs balanced...

Got some eBay fairings on the bike, after getting it back from being stolen it had none. I had to trim a fair bit around headlight to get it to work. Tomorrow im going to install carb screws from Jack flash on here.

Getting closer still! All new LED dash lamps fitted. I'm super happy with the uprated backlight lumens on the tach, speedo, and temp gauges, much easier to read. While I was at it I fitted a new no load electronic flasher and now everything flashes at the same rate! I also fitted my new double-bubble Zero Gravity windscreen. I customized it with a blacked out lower section to hide all the wiring and added a OEM Honda decal. Thanks to Ralf Haas for his kindly advice on the black out... I was a bit lost and he guided me back to the path of success!

That's an awfully pretty bike FG. My VTR has obviously seen a fairly hard life, and looks like pretty bit dull compared to yours. Still, like the Millenium Falcon, she has got it where it counts!

First wheelie of the year

Been on her every day rain cold or shine. Cars down for maintnence of the ..... Cct lol. Pulled the service line off vaccum so she is puking and farting. Can't wait to finish the fuel tank. Slapped oil on the chain. Been shopping for parts but I think this time to do the internals on the spare engine. I plan on swapping to the CBR rim soon so no swing arm swap till after I put the pipes on. She feels good. So much to upgrade so little time.

full tilt

Took one of my friends kids down the driveway yesterday. Lubed the chain.
No glasses so I punched it over some dirt. That woke me up. Tell you what that pilot tire hooks right back up. I thank god for all my time on wave runners and dirt bikes. Instinctively shut the throttle down half way. Wasn't scared till after. Makes me wonder what it would do in sand at 90kph.... Tanks still in my room
Its too cold out to sand it.

Talking Bought it last night and its been 25 years ...

I bought it last night and it's been 25 years since i rode a real bike. I my first ride from the seller to my home. I had to take highway Rt 69 (yeah that a real road guys) from Prescott Valley to Prescott AZ. The wind gusts were like 60mph plus at points. That was one hell of a first ride for this old girl (I'll be 59 in 3 weeks). Well, I proved I can still ride. My Ex would not let me own a bike and we just broke up.

I can't imagine what it would be like getting onto a VTR after a 25 year break. Good for you. I'm lucky enough that my wife of 25+ years has only ever known me as a regular motorcyclist, and has been kind enough to allow or even encourage my moto-passion. Welcome back to the fold.

Get the best tyres and riding gear that you can afford. ATTGATT rules.

I plan to do that. Wish me luck and yeah it was an experience like jumping into an F16 when you last flew a turboprop 25 years ago.

Sh** bricks today.
Washed everything including the chain. Gave her lots of oil and polished the pipes.
I promised one of my students a ride thinking she wouldn't last a mike or would see the gear she had to wear and opt out. I hesitantly took off and couldn't get my feet on the pegs. I pulled over and adjusted her feet onto the passenger set. 25miles of riding and the only thing I had to do is pull her a bit tighter for some twisties. The only I got her off the bike was by telling her her parents would be worried lol. She's the best passenger I've ever had.

Hmmm. Student? Be careful, that could be some very thin ice. Not anything I would consider doing, and I do some stupid at times.

She was actually really good. But I was concerned. Her parents used to ride. Had one douche drift into my lane literally drifting but it wasn't a big deal. I will only ride in the mountains because there is a way lower risk and she has all the gear. So I would do it again but I get the concern. Also should mention her mother and I work together as teachers. Think close community.

Rode my VTR to work today. Planned maintenance items are a clutch master cylinder rebuild kit, new res cup and a new brake res cup. Also considering changing the coolant to Engine Ice. I got the master rebuilt but couldn't get it bled in time to ride it home, so I left it there.

Bought a sweet takeoff for cheap for the front. Bid on a set of slightly molested mori zero pipes If I loose I am going to bite the bullet and test aluminum header back pipes. Bikes outside just out of the rain.
She developed a fart.
Still have not sanded the tank. Sunday I hope. Dunno what cap vent exctera to use.
I ain't super and no where as sharp as a hawk but I am eyeballing gear. I no gots riding pants.
Sorry no photos on anything PC is still busted.

Clutch master rebuilt and properly bled. New res cups for that and the brakes, which I also bled. Then dumped coolant, cleaned out overflow res as best I could and filled it w/ the Ice. Ran it till the fan came on and will double check levels tomorrow. Green stuff looked great for being in there so long.

What's that stuff in your reservoir cups? It's not brown enough to be brake fluid.

Took my VTR out for a spin to the Awhitu Peninsular again, a great 250km run from home. Even managed to get 210km out of the first tank of fuel! Was awesome fun, the bike was running sweet and always has plenty more to give than I ask for. Very grin-inducing!
