need a new battery & tires
Guys I would like some directions on a pair of sticky tires. I'm 37 so I won't be tearing it up doing stunts. Just want something that is good for curvy backroads and highway. I have a 2003 with 3500 miles so as you can see tread life isn't an issue they will dry-rot before that happens. Also battery is finally dead after 7 yrs want is a solid drop in battery with no maintance? thx

Michelin Power Pure is what I recommend because the are significantly lighter with excellent grip and the price is right about $250 for both shipped. Google these tires and read but 2lb reduction at the outermost part of the gyroscopic/centrifugal. This is huge, equal to the benefit of a $2000 set of wheels. You will feel the improvements in stopping, bump absorbtion, acceleration and virtually every facet of performance. If your gonna ride curvy roads, this is the tire.
Battery. i bought a yuasa for $77 from dealer because mine lasted 11 years, but others have bought AGM or gel types. Do a search and you'll get some hits on battery replacement. I had a Battery Tender for 10 years but bought a Battery Minder cause it is supposed to desulfate as well as charge.

hadn't heard of the power pure line yet. Looks good. Here is a link to some info on them and the weight claims at least. I'm guessing based on size most is the rear wheel and with cushdrive/chain and sprockets its probably less of an impact than the ad claims, but still, why not take it if you can get it.

Thanks I heard the pilot 2 was also good - thoughts? I took a quick look at ebay to get familiar with the Pure Performance too. What size is best for front/rear also which model they range from $118-$318 in Pure Performance.

I like Bridstone' BT-016. Last year they were very reasonably priced. I think they've gone up a little this season but still below most of the competition. Don't let the price fool you. Same or better grip than any Michelins I've ran.
For batteries I just go to Fleet Farm. Keep it on the tender over winter and they last quite a while. I'm on year four currently.

Right now, I am running Q2s now and they seem to stick well so far. They're advertised to allow steeper lean angles and so far I would have to concur. What's striking about the Q2s is the width and the arc of the tread. I had a 190x50 BTO-16 on previous and the present Q2 180x55 is as wide as the 190 BTO-16.
It's also interesting to note that the Q2 specs section on the dunlop site indicates that it's acceptable to run 190x55 on 5.5" rims. The down side of this is the added weight which i assume will go along with the larger tires, but haven't verified that as yet. Also weird is that the 200x50, which is slightly narrower than the 190x55 and is recommended for 6" rims, but not 5.5"??
I don't know what the weight of the Q2s compared to the Michelin Power Pures are but assume that the Michelins are significantly lighter.

dunno what you all mean by pilot 2's, there are several ''pilot 2's'' out there like michelin pilot power 2ct, pilot road 2ct which are different from eachother. I run one up front and one on the rear (respectfully) great tires for sure.

All great info I think I will lean towards the Power Pure. What size 190x55?
I found some on ebay (safe to buy there?) or preferred sites you recommend to buy?
Where is a good place for the Yuasa battery? Shop quoted me $150....

The best choice is the 180x55(should be the lightest, most responsive, and quickest turning). Wow a $150., I bought one from the local Honda shop last summer for $77. Search this forum. i believe there are other possibly better options.

as for a battery think I have narrowed it down to Yuasa YTZ14s $150 (yikes). Worth it I hope just want the bike to fire up. I do keep it on a tender too. Any thoughts where to find it for a better $ ? I found the Power Pure $285 (not bad) 190/55

The cheapest place that I found the stock Yuasa Battery (12S?) was from servicehonda. You need to know what bike a 14S is stock on , then look up the part number and order that.
Is there an advantage to a 14S, +2 amps? Will it fit?

good choices: do me a favor: before you mount the power pure rear(assume 180x55?), please stick it on a scale for me, I'm trying to get the weight to compare with the Q2 that I have on now, which is 14.8 lbs. Thanks.

+1 wearing very well matched and plenty of grip

Don't forget to weigh the Pure rear please. If you do forget, "I'll kill ya". Hahaha Did you ever see the movie Stripes with John Candy, some funny ****?
