1000 I4 dilema

So I've had my heart set on a 1000 I4 for a while. Here is my issue. I really liked a 2003 GSXR i looked at and the guy is holding on to it for me. Hes a 6 ft 5 24 year old. The bike has 15.4k miles. Another bike i saw today was an 01 GSXR with 9K miles and is owned by a 5 ft 3 woman. They both have exhaust. Should I get the higher/harder mileage bike with the newer body style and 7 more hp or should i take a small hit on the power and looks and go with the 01?

Is the 7 hp worth any money to you? If so, how much? On the street, will you ever notice the difference? Also, are you just assuming the woman rode her bike easier or do you know her riding style?

She is in her 30s and she isn't very big so lets call it an educated guess. Also the guy with the 03 was tellin me he hits the dirtbike track with is yz 450 regularly so it is also a fair bet that he is a pretty agressive rider

I don't remember the model year cut offs for gsxrs. But certain ones were all around favorites. Do some research on it. Get the model year you want. Even if you expand your search- there are lots of barely used well cared for ones out there. Find a near perfect one with evidence of good care.

Devil's advocate: Since he's around bikes, he could take care of it better, plus he has the dirt bike trails to get some aggression out.

Probably a good question for the Gixxer forum, but I would go for the '03 hands down. That is a classic model and a beast. You also could look for an '05 model as it is considered by many as the best GSXR 1K model ever, if you can find a clean one.

As far as being ridden hard - that's what those bikes were designed for - they can take it. Even at the track, my CBR1000RR doesn't feel like it's working all that hard. You don't have to ride them hard at all to go fast on the street.

Riding a liter bike on the street is kind of like dating a **** star because you like holding hands, if you get what I mean.

I would agree with your assesment completely shadow. That chick powderpuffed the bike and that dude ground the gears into powder. BUT how long did each own the bike? That chick could've bought it from a maniac.

The real bottom line is will you always yearn for one if you buy the other. Maybe read a bunch of reviews on each year but between those two take the powderpuff. Then you can hammer it

So i went and test rode the 01 last night. I only had one concern with it. It seemed to require some effort to turn the thing. Are our hawks just easy to turn? It was lowered a bit but she has the original links. Could that be the reason for the heavy turning?

I think any lowering would change the bikes basic geometry. Thus making it harder to steer or at least making it handle "differently".

My VFR is lowered a bit and it actually made the bike turn better (lower CG).

Often when someone is selling a bike they will let it sit for an extended period of time. My money is on low tire pressure.

hi, it's better to go with the '03. more regid frame, new cluster and led tail light even tho they look the same. '03 and '04 1000 share are the same. about stiffness when turning, gixxer are like that even my buddy's '09 600

Thats what im going to do. I rode both and the only way i can describe the 01 is "dissapointing". It had a lot of power but the 03 i looked at is pearl white and black and just looks sick. And despite only two years difference the 03 rode like a dream and the 01 made me wish i was on my hawk. So despite the higher miles im going with the 03. I will post some pics when i get it.
