winter pothole rimsmack

I actually did this at the start of last winter. Coming off the brooklyn bridge at about 60 I hit a badass square edged pothole & blew the front tire & did this to the rim. Don't think its fixable but may try....
I did not crash. I can now add this to getting hit by a cab(in the rain), bus, and truck without a bad crash. Actually the bus tipped me over but I wasn't moving.
I think the temp being in the 20s made the fork oil uncooperative too.

That sucks, can you make a claim for that? Back in the UK, the local city would have to pay for that...

I guess I could try but NYC is not a nice place. If a bus hits you the city immediately sues you for damages! (no kidding). I called around to file a claim at the time & got lawers & PD's kind of scoffing at me. I think it was something like "good luck".

Great job avoiding a crash. There are places that say that they can straighten the wheel and it'll be safe but probably you could buy another wheel for not much more than they'd charge for the repair.

When I was rear ended last March, my rear wheel was pushed in less than 1/4" and 3" long on the right side of the rim. The dealer sent my wheel out, and billed the insurance $165 for straightening and powder coating.
