I was looking for, the low fuel warning light, does it light up when the ignition is turned on like a self test of the bulb or not or is shorting it out the only way of checking it works.

No self test.
Looked at Honda OEM parts and too my surprise the low fuel light sending unit is no longer available for either generation of the SH. Hope mine lasts a few more years.
Here is a fix for a failed sending unit.
