Low fuel light inop

Low fuel light inop
My low fuel light is still inop. The light works when I short the two wires at the frame. The book said to change the low fuel sensor in the tank if this happens. I got a new one from Ron Ayres and it does not work. The sensor when brand new would not make the red light come on. I checked it with a ohm meter and it does not provide a short necessary to turn on the light.,before I installed it or after.I have an early 1998 VTR. Does anyone know if the later model fuel sensor would work. There were at least 3 sensors on Rons web site. The latest is for a fuel guage I think. I paid $40 and I can not return it.

Re: Low fuel light inop
The low fuel LED works. I had an electrical engineer look in the tank. He said that fuel cools the sensor. When it heats up it should turn on the light. I lowered the fuel level, hooked up the battery tender and left the key on. After more than 30 seconds the LED came on! I was using the trip meter for a fuel gage and I dont know how long I might have ridden before I discoved I had fixed the light with the new sensor. Thanks every one for all the help.
