Engine ticking noise

How old was the filter? Hopefully it wasn't so plugged that it activated the bypass. Check for sludge in the center galley (where the filter screws on). In any case, a couple of oil and filter changes in a row, with short run times is probably a good idea.

I will be doing at least two oil changes, just like you say. Good advice.
I'll be cracking open this oil filter in a little bit.

I'd check the pickup (strainer) and pump first as I think the oil passes through that before it reaches the filter. At least pull the strainer part off, check for debris and give the mesh a clean through.

The metal "shiney" stuff is not from the actual clutch friction material, but from the metal plates that the clutch friction material is adhered too. Those metal plates are what broke apart and those metal pieces knocking into each other is what caused the "ticking" noise I was hearing.
I took a close look at the broken edges of the friction plates and you can clearly see they were being smacked together. This is what caused the metal debris you see in my filter.
Really sucks knowing this came from my engine.
I have taken steps to prevent any further damage from this clutch fiasco. I just hope the engine lasts. If not, then the up side to this would be that a rebuild would give me the chance to install the high compression (11.5) pistons.

I have had this ticking noise since I bought the bike. Recently, a friend alerted me to the noise. He had heard it a year ago and then now. Said that it has gotten much worse. I guess I just got used to it.
It is a metal on metal ticking coming from the front of the engine.

Yes, it was fixed. The issue was found in post #13, #14, & #15. The clutch destroying itself was the problem.
What happened after I found this out was a real downer. Apparently, debris from this event clogged an oil passage and prematurely wore down the wrist pin in one piston for sure.
I pulled the bad engine, and built up my spare engine (11.5:1 JE pistons, Webcam cams, ported heads). Since I was pulling the bike apart, I powder coated the frame, six spoke wheels, swingarm w/900RR brace and sub frame. HRC ignition, '07 CBR1K front end, and a few other little things. Changed a lot this time around. Pictures of the complete bike will be posted very soon in my build thread.
