battery not charging

battery not charging

OK so new to the forum and got my vtr a month ago I put a new battery in my bike bcs the other one went bad. But my battery is not charging I can jump it ride it for a while with no problems but when I shut it off it will be dead.

Check your fuses, then stator, if those check out change your R/R. Welcome.

If you use the search function for "Test Stator" you will find all sorts of charging system troubleshooting threads, a good many with pictures. First thing to do is to download the service manual from this site.

If history is any teacher, its the Regulator/rectifier. But also check for the connections as I saw one guy think it was dead when it was disconnected.

Start the bike and put a voltmeter on the battery, then rev it a couple grand. Compare those readings to one with bike off.
