Tapping in some swingarm sliders...whats the best location?

looking for a good general area to mount the sliders. i was thinking about roughly 1/2" in on the bottom rear corners. what do ya'll think. unfortuanely welding is out of the question currently. besides these swingarms can sell pretty cheap sometimes if it goes wrong, which i doubt. should the bolt go all the way through with a nut on the back or will halfway be ok?

I had my swingarm spools welded on. It was cheap and easy to do (for the welder).

I ordered Pit Bull brand spool adapters and spools from Terra Powersports (www.terra-powersports.com).

another option would be a product chaparralmotorsports.com sells part#L213-41 they are threaded inserts made for installing swing arm buttons hope this helps but I would not drill all the way through and put a nut on the back side I'm planning on having a couple of nuts welded to mine I would put them just in front of the weld before the chain adjusters

Keep in mind that the swingarm is hollow. I'd try to make them as close as possible, if not on, the plate that holds the axle. That's likely the most laterally-strong point.

They now make sliders that fit through the hollow rear axle. Check out ebay. Only bad thing is that you can't use these with a rear stand to remove the wheel (since you have to remove the axle - duh).

i saw those but i think they're mostly for show/posing. since like you said, to remove the wheel=no axle and they don't stay in...

i think you are onto something, and yes i figured it was hollow, but i wont be using them to lift the bike at all. just make it slide in a fall

Well, if you won't use them to lift the bike then why not use the ones that go through the axle?

Hell, for that matter, I've seen entire used swingarms on ebay for $30 + shipping which is probably cheaper than any S/A sliders that you can buy. IMO, it ain't worth the trouble.

Next piece of advice: Crashing sucks! Don't do it.

drilled using 3 different bits, finished with m8x1.25 tap.
i'd say theres more threads there than on bikes with the spool kits. got super tight with no problems. no stand yet. i mostly did it to make it slide in case of a fall as i use bottle jacks. im sure there would be no probs at all with a stand though
