Found some RUST...AHHH...Whats the best cleaning agent

Hey guys, finally took of the front fairing and noticed a slight bit of rust on the forks...all looks to be superficial...Anyway...what's the best cleaning solution to get the bike cleaned up and shiny again. Also, if beginning signs of corrosion is found elsewhere...what's the best cleaning solution in general.

Thanks in advance.

When tackling rust, scratches, or paint issues it's always best to go from mild to wild in your methods.

For rust, try Never Dull cleaning wads. Great product with very little abrasiveness and the chemical makeup dissolves most oil, tars, gunk, grime and rust. If the rust has formed in deeper pits (rock dings), then steel wool works well. Again, go from fine to coarse as these WILL make scratches and you'll need to use metal polish (Never Dull or similar) afterwords to clean those up.

Crocus cloth works well and is less abrasive than steel wool if the rust is minor.

Simple rubbing compounds and cleaner waxes work for removing minor surface rust on painted surfaces and chrome.

Great. Thanks for the tips. A guy I know SWEARS by WD-40. Anybody know if that a good alternative or not?

Thanks in advance.
