PAIR removal how-to
#32
I am new to the forum and have already found it helpfull. but I have a question about the removal of the PAIR system. If I do remove it will it mess with the jetting because my bike is running perfect now and I dont really feel like rejetting and tuning.

OK - so I finally had a chance to fire it up. The ebay plates are not strong enough to seal off the exhaust pressure. I solved this by flipping the reed stopper and installing the reed assembly (the orange thing) under the ebay plates. Works great now, no decel popping anymore! JB

I removed the PAIR system today ( I used the plates made by superdutyd, I highly recommend them), and I am amazed at the difference. It runs way better now. I also cleaned the K&N filter, adjusted the throttle a little bit, and moved the carb breather tubes pointing downward, so I can't say the change is all because of the PAIR deletion, but . . .
The throttle response is awesome now, and absolutely no backfiring or popping. I didn't realize how bad the bike was running until I compared it to how it's running now.
Also, I noticed that the screw used to hold the PAIR to the underside of the airbox is a perfect fit to use to cap off the small tube coming off the PAIR ( I think it's the vacuum tube to the carbs, but not sure). I just screwed it in to the open side of the tube. That way I didn't have to find a cap for it. And Advance Auto Parts has a blow-off valve cap that fits over the airbox hole perfectly.
I'm very glad I took the time to do this today. It's the first time I dared take the fuel tank off myself, and there really is nothing to it if you follow the directions.

So I did this over the weekend. Rather than capping the small "T" on the carbs I just removed the "T" all together and cut the hose that goes to the PAIR valve to the proper length and installed on the carb like the rear carb is set up. Worked great! Also cleaned it up a bit for anyone who might see it, not that anyone would unless they took the bike apart but it's just nice to have less clutter in there. I also used the blockoff plates from superdutyd and I got his cam chain tensioners as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, thats what I was looking for(using the screw).
