Jetting Bike

I am getting ready to put the Factory Pro 1.0 kit and K&N filter on my bike that already has the Yoshimura RS3 ovals.

Ready the instructions, I see the process to find the right jetting and needle setting is trial and error. I am not sure if the PO put a jet kit on the bike, so I have a couple of questions before I disassemble the bike.

First, how can I tell if the carb's have been rejetted? Second, based on the above after-market parts, what size jets and needle clip position should I start with? Third, does anyone adjust the fuel floats? I don't see a lot of comments about this in the threads.

Lastly, do I need new gaskets when I do the re-jetting?

Thanks in advance.

Stock needles do not have clips for adjustment, the aftermarket ones in the kits do. Also check the jet sizes in the carb as to what the service manual says is stock (don't recall the #s of the top of my head.) You shouldn't need to replace any gaskets but be careful with the rubber parts, I've had mine apart to shim the needles and check the bowls for debris and didn't need to change any.

I just put the Factory Jet 1.0 kit in and found that choke crap that screws into the carb body is cheap plastic, so either my epoxy is going to work to repair it or I buy a $27.00 replacement just to get the $0.25 part. Love Honda's logic.

Anyway, if the stock jets are 175 and 178 I just pulled out a 180 and 182. The needles were clipped at 4th from the top, but the taper portion of the needle was about 1/2 of the factory needles.

Anyone have an idea what kit this might be?

Another victim of the broken choke nuts! Bummer.

It's not a Dynojet. They number their jets in multiples of 5. Is there a hole drilled in your slide?

I was the victim of those damn cheese *** choke nuts TWICE! $33 each time at the local dealer.

Never again 'cause I learned I can access the vacuum chambers, jets and pilot screws by detaching everything except the choke cables from the carbs.

I would not be surprised if Honda actually made more money on those "enrichment valve" parts package sales than they made on sales of the VTR1000f itself.

You guys just need to know how to be gentle with them. I tighten them finger tight and give them an additional 1/8 turn with a wrench. Don't pull too hard on them!

+1 I've still got the stock ones and I've had my carbs off so many times it's not even funny anymore.....

Yeah well, broken fasteners as a percentage of all the times I've had the carbs off, I'm not doing so bad.

I guess that is why I should have looked at the service manual a little closer, but I only broke one and I won't make that mistake again.

Well even with a busted front choke nut she fired up fine and sync'd the carbs and the throttle response is wonderful. Used 180 front and 182 rear with needles set at 4th from top and 2 1/2 turns out on the fuel mix, plus the addition of the K&N filter.

I noticed less vibration when riding in the 4-5K rpm since the changes as well.
