To make shorter links use:
http://tinyurl.com/
It works wonders
I have the T & D set ready for the thread chasing.
The Sliders are in the mail.
I have Lockhart Flush mounts on order also.
New bike to me means farkling it........
I will do an accessory lead while I have the panels off in two weeks.
I already have the inline fuse and plug for power , now to trace the proper lead for key power.........

Hate to regurgitate an old thread but
I've got the T-Rex's in hand and am ready to go to town. Should I strip the fairing completely off or can I remove just the rear bolts? I hear on Ducati's you need to jack the bike to unweight the engine bolts, is this required on the Superhawk? Thanks for any 4-1-1 on the D-I-Y.

Hi there can any one help. I bought a set of these t-rex sliders for my firestorm however after taking both bolts out at the same time, i cannot remember which bolt goes in what side as one is longer if im right. Also can anyone help me with the torque settings on these. Your help would be much appreciated. Regards Kai

The directions quote industry torque standards for M10 bolts as 31ft/lbs...the manual has a complicated step by step method with different torque settings for each of the engine hanger bolts, I seem to recall the consensus on the forum was 40 ft/lbs or so and that's what I used...if you do a search you may find that number.

Well to be honest it only seems like you who is annoyed with it, i apologise to others who are perhaps annoyed but accept the fact im a vtr owner in need of help...as for you learn some manors and respect the fact that other people may need help.

Greg wasn't saying that you shouldn't ask for help on his forum.. (he tends to be the first to help when he can) He was asking you to not sound like a child asking for candy repeatedly until the parent gives in just to shut the kid up.
I don't think it was intentional on your part, nor do I think he is doing more than some mild chiding - teasing.
Back to your original question: I do find it interesting that oahu hawk found in the directions that it is the left that is longer, when reaper at the start of this thread says it is the right that is longer..
Did T-Rex ever get back to you by email?

To remove any doubt, here's a direct quote from the sheet:
1. Remove left side engine mount bolt located just behind the choke cable ****.
2. Install the steel adapter with the one of the longer bolt M10x100mm. Align the adapter straight up so that it clears off the plastic fairing.
3. Install the slider onto the adapter using the M10x60mm.
4. Repeat the process on the right side of the bike. Use M10x80mm bolt for engine mount bolt directly in line with the left side.
5. Tighten to factory specifications.
Definitely not written by a native english speaker, but clear enough...long on left, short on right...

Lazn is correct (thanks for the backup Lazn). I was just razzing you. If you want to be rude we can take it offline. I have plenty of MANNERS, thank you very much, and it's my job to clean stuff up like that. If you hadn't noticed I'm the Admin here.
Oahu, thanks for answering his question.

OK, so I am most likely going to sound like a complete idiot here but I am thinking about getting these sliders for my Hawk. What is exactly is meant by "Chasing" the bolts prior to installing them? Also, are they just direct bolt on as in do you just remove the two bolts and rebolt the sliders back on? What about Lock Tite?

Hey, thanks for the reply. As for running them through a "die", would you more or less accomplish the same goal by running a nut over the threads a few times?? I really don't want to purchase a die set just for this if I can avoid it.
#51
Well, yes and no.... Using a nut you take away any larger irregularities, but using a die you get all the small as well... It's just about precision...
The idea is that the irregularities makes it easy to damage the threads in the aluminium parts if not removed...
If you want to go cheap, go over them with a wirebrush, and do it hard... then try them with a nut, if they turn very very easily it should do it...

97s were not sold in the USA only 98-05.. the rest of the world got them a year earlier and later, this is why you won't see much reference to 97s or 06s on this site.
