Opinions on Rally red paint for Superhawk

Hello. I am in the process of building a Superhawk streetfighter, and am do doing the paint on the gastank and other body work. I've always loved the depth and color of red on our Superhawk, but it is a pia to match the oem red as it is a three stage paint.
Colorite is horribly over priced, and they do not have the candy clear even available for it.
I contacted several places looking for the r157, but unfortunately it's been discontinued by PPG.
I've kind of leaned towards the Rally Red used on the new Honda Civic R, but am curious as to what people think of it as a true "Honda red." Is it too dark or orange? Thoughts on something similar?
Also, looking for opinions on the tank decals, maybe a Honda wing of a different model that would be deemed better looking.
Thanks in advance for any input or advice.

An auto paintshop should be able to mix up R157 paint. I use in the UK this shop https://www.gramic-supplies.co.uk 5 minutes down the road and all I've done is give them the colour code and they hand me back a spray rattlecan or a bigger pot for a spray gun.

R157 has a pinky undercoat IIRC (or is that my matching dulux front door!?!) with a final coat of clear. I've used an off the shelf rattlecan of nice glossy ProXL 2K Clear Lacquer.

I've drawn up VTR vector graphics that folk can take to their local vehicle sign makers and get made up to any size and colour. Chrome or gold effect vinyl looks good.

Hey thanks I contacted Keystone automotive store and they said they could scan one of the non sun faded areas but the mix wouldn't account for the tint in the clear, that would be a guessing game.
Said that was a variance color so it could be affected by dozens of factors.
I'm going to go for the automotive Honda red to keep it simple.
Figured to do several coats of paint over primer couple clearcoat layers add the decals then final clear to give as much depth as possible.
What thickness did you have the decals cut in, or did you apply yours over the clear?

I have used the Colorite R157 rattle can and have had good results. While it is pricey, it's no more than what a mega auto paint store wanted to fill a rattle can with the same R157.
The base coat looks to be just white, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Wink

Since the yellow ones are faster, will painting a yellow one red slow it down?

FWIW, I considered buying another local Hawk for 1500 in very good shape. Literally the only thing wrong with it is that it is Red. IMHO, it is the least appreciable of the Honda colors.

Can we agree that any color is better than Kawasaki Green?

What’s wrong with Kawasaki green besides being the least attractive color before yellow for a motorcycle.

I have an '06 Kawasaki KLR 650, it's green. When my wife first laid eyes on it she named it...Bud Tuggly...Still goes by that name as it deserves it.

And I remember Motorcyclist magazine did an article on a super custom Superhawk done by a guy named Chris Geter(?), which was painted a similar color green. Fantastic looking bike.

Yes, that's the green Superhawk that served as inspiration.

Yep, that's it. It was Sport Rider not Motorcyclist.
I always loved that build.
