What an idiot. Your friend better not mention it here or he's likely to get roasted.

I have a friend who bought his SuperHawk and knew all about ACCT issues, but decided to wait for winter to swap to manual CCTs. One broken spring and some bent valves later, he was shopping for a head. What a maroon.

Question about petcock rebuild.

I removed my tank which still had 1 -1 1/2 gal of fuel in it. I turned it upside down to remove the petcock. Ordered a rebuild kit for it and a filter. After repair I reinstalled the valve. As soon as I did, the small vent on the bottom of the tank began spewing fuel. The tank was sitting on its top. I went ahead and siphoned off the remaining gas. My question is, is it necessary to empty the tank for it's removal and or, is there some other reason for the gas that was in the tank to spew out through the tank vent?
While I'm at it, is there a diagram or photos of the insides of the petcock? I can't seem to locate anything.

Just to be clear you talking about the TANK vent, not the petcock vent correct?
If so, when you turned the tank upside down the vent passage filled with gas, when you turned it right side up the gase drained out of the vent passage.

If you meant the petcock vent, that's a issue with the rebuild kit or the work done

Yes, the tank vent. And what you say makes sense. Assuming I put the petcock back together correctly, When I put the tank back on, the only thing that could leak is the o ring on the petcock. Is that correct?
I've rebuilt the petcock before without any problems, but I emptied the tank before removal.

petcock leak

Petcock leaking when bike is running. It dribbles/bubbles out of the down pointing nipple at bottom of petcock, when I shut the bike off the leak stops. Is this tied into a bad diaphragm, or does the bad diaphragm cause a leak when its not running?
Just picked up the bike yesterday. also has a bad rectifier. going to a salvage place tomorrow to look for an r1 mosfet rectifier.

Just found this today in case anyone needs it.
Bought one for myself preemptively for my 98 model that still has the original piece.

Can't you get this for about $45 anywhere else? Probably need to add shipping to that, so $55 shipped may be a fair price unless you get free shipping from anywhere else.

Not sure it's available anywhere else.
Seems fair enough to me.

Is it possible to find something for that price nowadays?

Partzilla had it in stock at $45 on Friday. Today it's at $47. This inflation's a bitch. Free shipping on orders of $149 or more. Of course, just because they say it's in stock isn't a guarantee it's in stock. They call that a bait-and-switch.

I guess I didn't search hard enough the other day.
Here's another ebay listing:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/294673592425#vi-desc-maincntr

And here it is at husqvarnapartspro.com for $34.80 plus shipping.
