new guy from boston.

Hi all,

just bought a 98 superhawk. I'm stoked to take it for a long ride, but I've been all over this forum today and am super nervous about the CCT. it does have the stock ones but only 15k miles. should i be as nervous as i am?

I was in the same boat as you with my recent addition of a 98' also with stock CCTs and 11k miles.

I just changed them out for peace of mind.

It's an inexpensive part and the install is fairly simple if you can follow directions. Not to mention while you're in there you can check your valve clearance (due soon) and have a bit more metal security that the top end is all OK.

Using a manual tensioner is the thing to do right?

Yup, manual CCT is the peace of mind route. Plenty of the Who, Why and How on this site. Browse the KB here, a few more key areas to check out.

Look and see what Regulator Rectifier (R/R) you have on the bike. It's also a known weak spot and is remedied even easier than the CCTs.

Either auto or manual CCTs work just fine. There are advantages and disadvantages to either kind.

Ok, thanks for the responses. Anyone in the Boston area willing to help? I have zero tools. Just moved from San Diego and ally tools are still there.

Hi Warsaw,
I live in Arlington MA. I have a 2001 super hawk w/twin stage 3 carbs & pipes. Carbs are off the bike right now for some re-build. I haven't changes the CCT yet. 20K miles. I have been ignoring the problem so far but should probably change them out before spring (real soon). I have some tools. We can trade note/stories. Send me a PM
