Mr Ohlins did not smile on me today

Or I know I'm fat but damn......

So I'm out riding today on Latigo Cyn and came up on a local who decided to take off.... Well no problem now I have someone to set the speed for me.... roll the bike into the next corner and suddenly it feel like I'm riding a pogo stick....

Pull over and check things and I have no damping in the rear

So nursed the bike home figuring I blew a seal..... but noooo when I pulled the shock I found this:

Mr Ohlins did not smile on me today-014.jpg

Mr Ohlins did not smile on me today-012.jpg

Mr Ohlins did not smile on me today-008.jpg

Guess I'm giving Dan a call in the morning.......

On my penske, it somehow sunk down to compressed. Almost fell over off the now too long side stand. Rode it home like that. Suspension guy said he never saw it before. Internals totally failed. Glad you are ok. I saw one fail in turn 1 of a race and cause a horrific crash.

I'm very glad you're OK. Any idea what caused the failure?
My Penske failed in a way similar to smokinjoe73's. It was cheap to fix.
Even the premium stuff isn't bulletproof.

Talked with Dan this morning and the problem was that the lower spherical bearing seized which caused my issues....... Shock is in the mail and should be back pretty soon

That truly sucks. There is no way to lube it, I woder if there is anything you could to prevent that type of failure.

I'll let you know as I had to pull the exhaust to get it out so I have to wait for some gaskets to show up but thanks for the offer

Yeah send it in to get it rebuilt..... I was getting things set up to do that as the shock felt a little stiff but just had not got it done yet..... Well at least now I have an excuse to see if a ride height adjuster can be retrofitted

Well, the Honda folks say to stick with genuine Honda. That's what I would do if the Penske unit already in place ever failed. Not likely since I only weigh 180 or so.

Penske uses the same type of bearing on the lower link of their shock also...... and they do need to be serviced or replaced from time to time....

Something tells me if Honda could use an Ohlins shock and keep the same price point and national loyalty, they would...

Besides, Honda never, ever makes any part that brakes or couldn't be improved upon. Oh, except for that little CCT thing. And maybe the r/r. Or choke cable housings.

lol, I couldn't resist . I would buy this (my Honda) product again and would recommend it to a friend.
