just took a first ride on my first superhawk
When I bought my hawk last week I knew something was wrong when I rode it, and also it needed the CCT's done, so I installed the APE's tonight and while in there found that the rear carb slide diaphragm was in wrong and leaking so it didn't lift, so I fixed that, and once it was back together I took it out for a ride and all I can say is WOW!!!, I had no idea this thing would run that good, still needs a K&N and jet kit but WOW, I am hooked and this thing isn't going anywhere for a long time, and when it does it will be replaced with a newer hawk or RC51...

I didnt think there was, I think I'll hang onto this one for awhile, hopefully the engine holds up, it has 35,000 on it and I dont know how it's been treated before. Im a bike tech for a living though so I can do all my own work to it, but it'd still suck to have to do anything major to the powertrain...

yeah, altoona is a good bit west of here, maybe i should change that to the town, but no one has ever heard of myerstown when i mention it, i live right about an hour east of harrisburg, cant wait to get this thing tuned right this winter, gotta wait till work slows down, but having all the free dyno time i want is definitely a good thing. plus having two lifts and all my tools there makes it easy...but for now its staying how it is so i can enjoy the fall riding...

Sure is a cool feeling isn't it? Welcome aboard. I just did that with an 1100 shadow. Just was running real flat and was downright SLOW. Finally took the carbs off and cleaned 'em and couldn't believe how crisp and how much more powerful she ran. Beats giving someone at the shop $400 to do it.

I wouldn't worry about 30k miles being alot. It's not unheard of for these bikes to be 75k plus miles. I have 51k and still have great power and compression. Most of the time people destroy / crash motorcycles long before the engine wears out.

It is easier to ride our bikes faster, but the little ninjas with a good rider actually are faster in many cases.
But I prefer the grunt of real torque over having to twist high RPMS to go fast.

hes not a real good rider and on top end he might get me, but after the v-twin bashing id like to see the look on his face, i let him ride some other bikes i have had so maybe ill just swap bikes with him next time we ride, then he'll understand why i wanted it. the funniest thing is that i work in a harley shop, people wonder why a harley tech would ride a honda, then i just mention how its fast and responsive and handles well. we have a few that come in with 100whp and 100 ft. lbs. at the wheel so you gotta watch who you say that too, cause in a drag from light to light you arnt gonna beat a worked harley
