to buy or not to buy Super Hawk?!?
Hello all i'm new to the forum i'm in the market to buy a super hawk. I've been reading on the issues with the cct and the r/r is there anything else I need to be aware of. I've been trying to find one as new as I can,but I have seen some low mileage(11,XXX) older ones(98) Just wondered if I should consider the newer ones only. Most of what i've looked at was 2002 or 2003 Thanks for any help!

any year is great. very minimal changes. find one someone took care of, or with some nice upgrades like suspension, seat. Finding the right seller way more important than the year. You can always swap out to APE cct if that worries you at all.

I'd never sell mine, cuz I've built up a nice little stg1 motor and it is so much fun to ride, but from time to time you'll run across one that's a real gem...good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Ain't the bike, its the owner.
Someone who's been a rider for decades and has decided to part with a favorite bike is selling a polished gem.
If the gods bless you, the seller will judge you kindly and give you a jewel for pittance. He will be looking for assurance that something he cares about will be respected.
'Luck out there.

The only thing I can add is to make sure you know about the different color combos. Later hawks had gold colored forks, clutch, and stator covers while the earlier ones had graphite colored pieces and silver forks. The earlier bikes were available in yellow (best/fastestest), red, and black while the later ones were available in red, blue, and pewter. I'm sure someone will correct me or add some color I've missed. Also the later bikes had differently positioned gauges.
CCT's and regulators are no big deal. They can be done in an afternoon or two and for less than $200. IMO mileage isn't really a concern for these bikes. I've got 30k on mine and it runs like it's new. Check out this thread: https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=23993

Im my opinion the Hawk is the most reasonably priced all around sport bike on the market right now. If you change the CCT's and R/R then you've got a bike that with proper maintainance should never give you a problem. It will provide ear to ear grins all day in almost all situations. I4's are great for the track but when it comes to real world use its hard to beat a big honda v twin.

Set up a google alert for VTR1000 honda super hawk and you'll get plenty of hits.
welcome to the forum and take your time, but if you find a good one regardless of year, don't hesitate.

it just makes sense to opt for newer ones because all components are newer and probably been exposed to less adverse conditions, maybe; however each has to be considered on its own merits because a 98 could have been cared for meticulously, upgraded correctly, and include costly goodies, while a newer one could have been beat to hell, sat out in the sun/rain for months, etc.
