To buy or not to buy....

Hello. I might be your newest (and only) member in China. Problem here is that anything bigger then 125 cc is forbidden, therefore having a big bike scene a bit in the dark and bike maintenance on a very amateur level ....

I have a 1996 900 Fireblade, which I completely restored in the last 1/2 year (working on it is as much fun as riding). Right now I am in a position to buy a 2000 Superhawk. In preparation I have browsed your various sites, to learn more on the specific problems of the Superhawk. So far I did not find much other things then the ones I also faced for the Fireblade, 1~2 gear, CCT tensioner, heating / breaking of the R/R, etc.

But, should appreciate if there are any other specific (and expensive) problems to look for? Any suggestion and advise is welcome.
Will keep you posted on the progress of buying.

superhawk22 is an unknown quantity at this point
Welcome to the site! We have one other Chinese member with us, his screen name is someonehappy but I haven't seen him on in a while now. To answer your question though simply put NO. I've had mine for almost 7 years now and the only problem was the R/R and she even survived a track day crash with no problem,(although I wouldn't recomend that).

A Vtwin is such a clasic motorcycle engine And a more enjoyable engine for me. Usable and entertaing in all RPM's.I don't think you could buy a more reliable Vtwin.Mine has been "Honda" reliable

Welcome to the forum! I've done a lot of traveling to South East Asia (I even made it Hong Kong twice) and you are right that all the two-wheeled vehicles have small displacements. There are motor-scooters everywhere. With a Hawk, you'll be the king of the road and the envy of all. Good luck.

Welcome aboard!! yeah you've touched on some of the main ones but otherwise if it's been cared for you should be happy with it! Only problems I've ever had with the ones I've owned (besides accidents and the sickness to not be able to leave anything stock) was the first brand new one I had overheated (bad thermostat) the same day I took it out of the crate. And this current one I changed the r/r in it and have gone through a couple batteries, even with a tender on them.

Ride her hard and pute her away wet - she doesn't care, she's a Honda. I'd recommend buying her, you'll be "the man" out there. P.S. How is the riding in China????

I saw the bike but decided not to buy it, it definitely came into China from the South, and although I am not an expert, it surely was a kit built from various bikes / parts /etc ..... too much of a mess to start rebuilding in a professional way, and yes, welcome to the motorbike scene in China .... but I got an other one in the pipeline, a yellow one with a bit of better history, or so it seems, will pay a visit the coming weekend.

Riding here is crap. First all bikes >125cc are illegal, so driving is always a risk of being caught by the police, after which you surely loose your bike, kind of Russian roulette every weekend.....The good part is that the local police is not that eager on big bikes, so as long as you drive out and not go into downtown it is ok.

Second, Chinese surely don't have any sense for driving (heck, what about flying with Chinese pilots....I fly every week for my business....), and that means that you NEVER can expect anybody to see you or anticipate on anything. It basically means that you are completely on your own, got to expect that EVERY car, truck, bus, pedestrian or chicken will cross in front of you ANY time!
I just got new tires fitted, and my chicken strips are huge ha-ha.....

Still, it is fun to drive again (I did not for about 8 years), and I love to work on bikes as much as driving. That why I am interested in buying a VTR next to my Fireblade, an other project to bring up back to "original".
