2004 VTR1000

Hey Guys, just about to buy my first VTR1000 (2004) in New Zealand. Just wondering what you think of fitting an aftermarket rear shock, and also wondering what is available out in the wide world. (Due to the small size of our national market, and being a touch isolated as far as a workable 'land-bridge' goes ). Apparently, the current owner has already fitted aftermarket Ohlins springs to the forks. The rear has been lifted separately by an inch, but the shock is still stock, and consequently feels like a bit of a 'quick-steering plank' on the test ride, but I do like the V-twin feel. Also has a set of 41mm Keihin Flat-slide race carbs fitted with pod filters, and feels like it needs a bit of a tune down low. Punchy mid-range, and has dyno'ed at 104hp on the rear. Motor is still stock, with scorpion pipes.

cheers

Matt

Welcome aboard. general consensus is any aftermarket shock is better than stock. My bike came with a Wilbers remote res "racing" shock which feels great. Had a look online, they go for about aud$1100, but there is a non remote one for about half that. They have distributers in Oz so possibly have in NZ too, if not shipping wouldnt be bad. Doherty Racing is a member on here and have some real tasty looking bits for our bikes including shocks and fork cartridges. Pricing is very good but based in US so exchange rate and shipping will be a factor but well worth shooting them an enquiry .
