Well I'll have one soon. I just need to get around to taking it out.

If you are still looking in a little while, we can talk then.

Forgot to ask what year your bike is as they only work with the early models and are you looking for a 2,4 or 6 degree unit?

The next time my clutch cover is off I'm going back to stock.

Tell me why? I advanced a 2000 zx12r and even at that high compression the low speed response was improved at no expence to top end. General concensus is an advance helps all bikes. Hawk too, what did you find?

Advancing the ignition does, in fact, help the midrange with a loss of a bit up top (even if you don't "feel" it). I put an advancer on the CBR600 I raced and it made a big difference in drive off the corners. I guess that's why I put one on my VTR, not thinking that it's already got gobs of midrange but is lacking in top end - exactly the opposite of what an advancer helps you with.

Ok so what is the latest verdict on advancers, last time I looked everyone was high on +4. I just got a 98 what's the concensus?

I think the ignition advancer was a good idea for the inline-4 guys and got applied to the VTR's. For the big twin I would say not to bother - you are better off without it.

It'll give you about 1 hp and better throttle response. Given the cost of it, that's about inline with slip-ons or most other bolt-on mods for power to cost ratio.

I run 93 octane most of the time as preignition could be a concern with the higher advance.

Just to elaborate, these gains are in the midrange only. You will lose 1-2hp (maybe 3) up top.

Honestly, I would not go with the advancer. Spend your time focusing on other areas of the bike as that will be much more valuable for you.
