Thermostat removal wo tank lift?

Havent done this in 5 yrs can I sneak the thermostat out wo removing the airbox?

I suppose if you had to, and had tools to reach hard to get to fasteners, but honestly I think you will spend 10 times the time to do that way then remove the tank and air box

You do know that the tank can be tilted back without disconnecting any lines, right? Remove the seat, the 2 bolts behind the steering head and tilt her back. A few screws, a couple of breather lines on the air box and you're wide open

Ok so yeah it one of those jobs that you wonder if the shortcut is longer than the long way.
BUT
I did it with the tank & air box in place! The trick is the back bolt on the housing. You can do it with a quarter inch socket but I used this awesome too called the Tite reach. It transmits socket torque thru it so you doing need to swing the ratchet in tight quarters. It has saved me on the bike and truck many times.

So new thermostat is in, took off water pump cover and all looked good. No restrictions in hoses and the coolant was super clean. Almost shockingly so.
No obstructions for air flow to the rads. Now I will see if the cooling capacity changes.
Oh and water pump impeller spins fine.
