Tank removal
Ok guys, Forgive me but Ive never taken a fuel tank off of a motorcycle EVER! So, waiting for me in my garage when I get home are new D&D pipes. While I install those, im going to disable the PAIR system. I need someone to tell me how to remove the tank. I see all kinds of hoses and its a bit intimidating. Please help.

Do you have the manual yet? https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=11365
The hoses are no big deal, only two that can be mixed up, so be sure to get those right when you reinstall them.

A digital camera can be your friend. Take pictures before you remove anything.
Note the location of the hose which is attached to the back of the fuel tap.
Remember to disconnect the wires going to the sensor for the fuel gauge.
It helps to empty the tank before you remove it.
Turn the fuel tap to the off position. Its supposed to operate only when the engine is running but it's not a sure thing.
Find a safe place to put the tank before its off the bike.
The hoses can be a bit sticky. Try to rotate them on the spigots before you pull them off.
Use a magnet to lift out the screws near the steering head which attach the air box lid to the air box.
Take your time. Have fun.

Like comedo said, empty the tank first. This is most important since it weighs a ton if its even half full. I usually run mine until its on reserve, or near reserve, 100 miles since fill-up. Having a helper to lift the tank while you remove the hoses helps. This is the most pain in the *** bike I've owned to remove the tank.

also note where the vac line hooks up to the petcock. there is a nipple on the bottom of the petcock that does nothing. many have hooked up the vac line here (i did it once as well, so has my mechanic). if you do this it will run until you use up the gas in the bowls and then it will die. be sure to remember to hook it up to the back of the petcock.
