Strange engine noise

Hello I have a hawk that makes wierd noises from the front cylinder bank. It only makes the noise at 1500-2500 rpm. It sounds like chain slap but it only happens at that RPM. I think it has the stock ccts so should I start there. P.S. only 24000 miles.

There is a "carb slide" noise from bikes with higher mileage too. It usually happens around 2500- 4000 RPMs. If you haven't changed the cam chain tension-ers yet, do so now.
Then see what noises you hear afterward. I have 35K on my SH, makes a few odd sounds but everything checks out OK. Valves are in spec, carbs jetted and in sync, cam tension-ers replaced. Just normal noises from a twin.

Yes, check cct's now, really not much to check just replace. My bike started making some noise at the rear at 24k mi, cct seemed fine, I was actually dealing with other problems, I decided to spend the $100 on the APE manual adj cct's, and all of a sudden my bike was quiet. I believe the front is more prone to fail...

Thanks all I will start there. Does anyone know if you can rebuild the stock ccts with heavier springs? Is it even worth it? Well I will check them out and thanks for the help.

Not worth rebuilding the stock cct's. The new parts are not that expensive but the repair takes time and exactness.

Calitoz has a great write up on it here. You cannot search for CCT on the search engine so use the whole words or just go to Calitoz posts and scroll back. It has been within the last few months so it shouldn't be that hard to find.

I agree with the others - do it now - ride very little until you do. My Superhawk (at 16K) is parked until I get mine done.
