Simple Front Sprocket Removal Question...

OK Boys.... simple one...

To REMOVE to front sprocket bolt... Counter clockwise or Clockwise? Just wanna be sure I'm going the right way before I do something stupid and break it or strip it by going the wrong way... as I know sometimes items like these can be threaded "backwards" to insure they won't back out.

Thanks...

J.

Can't remember for sure, but I'd say it would be clockwise since it spins counterclocewise during use and would spin out otherwise

We gotta quit meeting like this. I read all the posts down the page thinking to myself, "no, I don't think so." "no, that is incorrect or not my experience" then I get to your post. This I trust because I know you've done it more than once.

Lefty loosey, righty tighty! Thanks for your help.

Bolt comes out counter clockwise.Put a piece of 2x1 wood through the wheel, resting on top of the swingarm. This will stop movement of the sprockets, chain, wheel. Remove bolt and if necessary tap the sprocket with a small hammer towards the motor to loosen.Note the profile of the sprocket, thick side goes inwards.... Good luck.

Thanks all...... I know the procedure well, but just wanted to make sure I didn't force the bolt in the wrong direction by accident!!! Counter Clockwise - Lefty Loosey it is!!!

Haven't found a left-handed thread on the Superhawk yet. Am sure that bolt is lefty-loosey... I have a grade-8 replacement bolt in place now after I used a 3-foot breaker bar and sheared the old one off. Thought the same thing you did, "But it spins that way. Why wouldn't you put a left-hand bolt on there?" D'oh!

UPDATE!!!!

Yes, it's lefty loosey (Counter clockwise) to remove.

And... if you have an impact gun... put the bike in first gear and hit it... 2 seconds and it's off... and I didn't even have a chain on it!!!! I love air tools!!!.

i used a breaker bar while i was seated.
reached down with my left hand and just pulled.
left a couple of interesting marks on basement floor with rear tire.

And if you don't have air tools and don't like the 2x4 idea (I never did) then put the bike in gear and hold the rear brake. Works like a champ!
