The SAGA continues.....

The saga continues.. Episode “ rent a gun and buy a bullet “, So in relation to the posts rear cylinder and carb hell.. I think. This is where I am… me and my hawk are intimately familiar with each other and considering I teabag her daily turnaround is fair play, right? Last night I removed the carb pack and opened up the bowls to let them drain.. today I pulled off the diaphragms cleaned them, the bowl area and removed the jets and cleaned the complete system by running cleaner through everywhere I could. Reassembled the complete unit and carefully reinstalled the carbs on the bike.. got her all dialed in and fired her. She fired right up without hesitation… she runs, sounds great then when I throttle her I get the same result. It sounds and feels like she is choking out and dies… AFTER slamming my head angst the floor repeatedly I came to think, DAMN is she out of sync…. HOW do I tell and anyone have any “ghetto” ways to Sync the carbs??? I am at a loss and running short on $$$
By the way, Thank everyone who has given me support and helped out with "words of wisdom" you guys rock

$1.55 Carb Sync Tool by Marty Ignazito
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ool-use-21028/

you will need to find a fitting for the front carb, make sure it fits correctly and is sealed to get proper,or close to proper reading.
this will help you get as close as possible to correct sync.

Make sure the vacuum hose is connected in the right place.

but,i would do that with the air box on and is your air mixture screws adjusted correctly.
2 1/4 turns out for the front.
2 1/2 turns out for the rear.
this is from all the way in,coming out.
when turning the air mixture screw in,do it lightly, when it stops, dont put any more force on it.do not tighten down,it will ruin the seating.

it is the vacuum hose that goes from the rear head to the back of the petcock.

Ok so this has gone to the nucking futs file, please allow me to explain. The bike got knocked over in the garage, since then I have replaced the coils, torn the carbs apart and cleaned them several times, replaced all vacuum lines, the petcock and diaphragm and quadruple checked everything that I have touched… but the bike starts strong, idols smoothly, when I ride her.. at 4000 rpm the bike feels as if she is being choked out????? Any thoughts? please

You never answered me in your other thread when I asked if you synced and tuned your carbs, here you say you dialed them in so I assume you adjusted the air fuel mixtures, but you have to sync also. Did you ever check pvlir? Check your airbox and all hoses that connect to it

Sorry bout that, PVLIR, Yeah compleatly rebuilt the petcock and vac, as for sync the carbs, not yet. in process of building the thing.. so I know im a step short in diagnosis. all the hoses are correctly connected to the airbox as well.. just this choke out at 4k gggrrrr. I am going to replace all the choke cables and parts... IDK.

Sync your carbs. I would bet my money on that being the problem. You can't correctly tune the carbs without syncing them. Search how to sync carbs, build yourself a meter or buy one and get then in spec. Guessing and throwing parts at it is only going to cost you more.

Pvlir is essentially putting the vac hose for the petcock on the wrong nipple, although I couldn't see it revving to 4k with the line in the wrong place.

As I said in my PM to you, it IS being choked out. Replace the choke cables before you do anything else!

Pvlir is just the phrase used to say you put the vac hose on the wrong nipple, but yes it goes on the rear nipple, closest to the seat.

Yeah, as for the choke I was putting the choke back together last night and snaped the forward choke housing at the elbow.... GGGRRRR. I would like to figure out why the bike fires and idol's wonderfully, powers up to 4K and drops out. Is it a venturi, fuel or what.. It is just perplexing.. any thoughts.

Until you fix the things that you know are broken - then it's hard to proceed onto the things that might possibly be wrong.

As for you broken choke nut - check this thread out for solutions

https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...e2/#post320073

or alternatively contact and speak very nicely to gl_s_r who has recently made some brass (& titanium) replacements for the crappy plastic fitting.

I never had much luck with the carbs with the air box off. When I rejetted in '99, I remember starting the bike with the air box off and she ran poorly. I thought it was a screw up and spent hours of "searching" to no avail. Put the air box on and "magic". After a sync, all was good. If it doesn't run any better, then you need to determine if you are lean or fat by using the choke to enrich the mixture and watch for a changes in rpm.

i noticed too in the video, you slides was not moving at all,or super fast that i couldnt notice.do they slide back and forth at all on their own when running.
it will run a lot better with airbox and such on.when you do the sync, make sure the air box is on.

Fuel in a vac line??

This morning after I put the bike back together, she fired right up… I let her idle to warm up, then to take her down the street. Again at 4K she started to sputter and bog down (almost sounded like a 2 stroke) belching out blue smoke from her pipes. I noticed a nasty fuel smell.. I limped her back down to my pad and tore off the tank again. I noticed something I haven’t seen before.. fuel in a vacuum line.. I do not know what this line is for. 3 years ago I preformed a PAIR removal.. but this is new to me… I have attached a few pix ..
