What brand of aftermarket, electrosport? Because those are junk and will only last a few weeks.

The RR works by turning excess power into heat. It's normal for them to get hot and that's why they (the good ones at least) are finned.

I do not know exactly how hot they are supposed to get. I thought about going with the electrosport model, but the advice from the forum on the R1/R6 model and the cost difference is what got me. The one I got from ebay cost me $50 plus another $2 for connectors. It is a really big unit (thats what she said) that is practically new so I hope it last for a long time. The main thing is that all of the weird electrical things have stopped.

Yes, regulating excess voltage via heat dissipation is how they work; however, I don't think I've ever heard (read) any temperature figure before in any of the ka-jillions of r/r threads from the various forums and email lists I've been a part of.

So, yours could be very hot or pretty cool, who knows, as we have no base line for comparison. All of mine get too hot to touch for any length of time.

Some people like to put a small cpu style fan on there to cool them a bit.

And the aftermarket ones are better than the stock honda ones, so don't worry too much about that.

I know there going to get hot but i just wanted to know if any one ever put a heat gun to it and saw what the temp was. I have a shop manual for my superhawk but it doesn't tell you how hot thay get.

Most all transistor/rectifier components have a 0 to 90+C (with a max of 118 deg Ambient)rating so as long as you keep it under 194 Deg F (which is all depends on outdoor ambient, air flow etc) and even at 194 degrees it does not stop working it just starts to deterorate. thus shorting the life of the component. 160 sounds fine you could always relocate it to a spot with better airflow.

This is my Ed Opinion Your Mileage may vary.
