Preferred oil

I know everyone has an opinion.

What is everyone using for motor oil, and how often are you changing it?

Oil? Oh, that's soooo last year. We're now using more "exotic" lubricants like KY jelly!

Welcome to the site but, umm, don't start with an oil question! :-)

I use Honda GN4 10w40 exclusively, changed every ~1000 miles.

Beechnut,

My apologies. I didn't know the search engine wouldn't work on "oil". I just discovered to my surprise that the search engine is limited to a minimum of FOUR letters. So try searching "Mobil" and you'll get more than you really wanted with regards to oil threads. Have fun reading!! hehehe

Oil just slows you down. Drain it and go!

Yep. Kinda sucks, huh? Maybe we could add something to a knowledge base, where everyone posts up the oil they use.

I'm lucky if I get 500 miles between oil changes.

I think a KB oil post would only serve to confuse people as EVERYONE uses a different brand, weight and frequency of change. By the by, I use Motul because a friend's father owns the Ducati dealership on the island. That crap is expensive.

Talking The best oil is SOLID

to aid in bringing some extra weight to my bike...i have found that filling the engine with ball bearings is just as effective as using any kind of oil...including synthetic. Give it a try....

I was sort of expecting this with the different brands, and mileage.

How you're riding the bike and what type of oil certainly affects the life of the oil's properties. The debate of sythetic vs dead dino oil in a bike seems 50/50. I haven't seen any evidence one way or another.

I do know the synthetic is $$$. It pays off if you have a clean, tight, cool running motor and can put lot's of miles on the oil between changes. My yearly mileage is only 6k, so with a 6 month interval I'm only getting 3k on the oil. If I change it 2x in the summer and once in the winter it's even less.

Amsoil 20w-50 here. I usually go 5000 between changes because 90% of my miles are on the highway. I would be changing oil every 3 weeks if I changed it at 3000.

I use the mobil stuff, but I never change it.
My bike seems to burn it up pretty fast so I just keep putting new oil in.
Works for me.
haha
