Pilot road 3's. Feedback?
Pilot road 3's. Feedback?
I think I am gonna get the michelin road 3's but need feedback from someone who has tried em. I dont do tons of sporting but heard these are great rain tires and have 3 compounds for mileage.
Who knows first hand???

I haven't had them on the storm, but i've ridden a zx9 with them on it quite a few times and they were solid. The bike wasn't mine so i wasn't pushing it but they make a great sport touring tire. To compare i liked them more than the 023's on my bike, but not enough to make up the price difference.
The Road2's I tried lasted about twice the mileage as the PP 2CT, from their own marketing the Road3's should last even longer... But I haven't tried them yet...
I'm thinking about putting a Road3 on the rear, and a Power Pure on the front... Haven't decided yet though...

According to BIKE magazine. (by far one of the best IMO) They say switching to to 3's is like upgrading to ohlins suspension.
They tested alot of tires and couldnt say enough about how the 3's improved the ride and handling.
It helped that they had a pic of a tester splashing his kneeslider through an inch deep puddle on a wet track with them/

I live in Texas.. what is the thing "rain" you speak of?
Last three sets of tires.. PP, Q2, PP 2CT, 2CT' rear is almost worn out at 3k miles.. front can go another few miles.
Road 3's are next

I got 6500 miles out of my pilot road 2 rear, mostly commuting. I never once questioned the ability of the tire, it always stayed planted and never hinted at sliding out during hard rides. If the 3s are comparable, those will be next once I wear through these q2s.
I think the pr2s are a little stickier, could be wrong...
Sudden loss of traction is what i was talking about, like the back wheel wanting to come around. I do slide with the 2s, but it is expected and controllable. All I know is that compared to the q2 I have on, the dunlop seems like trash.
A Smokin' .. My younger brother and I bought and installed new tires /within four hour of each other-at the first week of spring.
I am riding on a set of 2ct's on my 2001(Ohlins suspension(fork springs/rear shock)GMDcomp-set-up)
My brother ridin' the Road3 on a 1998(racetech suspension(fork springs/rear shock)
Both of us are commuters, and ride most all the time-when available during the weekends.. and we both are usually carrying a rider(wife) during the weekends.
I got ruff estimate of 62-6500 miles on the 023Battlaxs that came off.
We went to Hwy129 a week ago, and pushin' the curves.. and back home.. with 3000 miles on the tires(brother 2280 miles on his) probably got 1500 miles left on the rear, and probably another 3000 on his and my front tires..
We have both decided -that he is going to try a set of the 023, which I will probably going back too.
My brother had the Road 2 s on his S-hawk at the change....

Wow, see its good that you can involve family like that.
So yeah that is definitely more dolla per mile. I really dont know how many miles my 023 has gone but it is a good tire. Like I said I got it for the wet grip.
It is way more stable than dunlop sportmaxes 211's I have run. Good in most conditions but the dunlops will way out handle it.
I prefer the stability in heavy traffic/ heavy rain or snow.

Sorry for the late response.....I put it on at a little over 22k miles I will be at 28k in 3 days and love the wear. If I take a measurement in one of the little holes near the center I get .125, wish I would have measured it brand new. I don't do a whole lot of heavy accelerating or cornering but do ride "spirited". With the wear I see I'm not anywhere near 1/2 way at 6k miles to wearing it out.

Personally I like the rear 023 but I hate the front 023 as it isnt as aggressive in shape as the 016 front and it make my SH feel really heavy in the front and not as flickable. It kinda changed the way I ride it.
I got a killer deal on a bunch of 016s fronts and also going to 6spoke front if ever I find a straight one..... After this I will do a little swap and see if the 016 front with a 023 rear will be a good match.
Ive read somewhere that there is a new Battlax coming out soon or may be out now. Supposed to be a good sport tire with good wear for commutes. Will see..................
Running PR3's front and back, only fitted about 1,000 mls ago, finding the profile of the front is about the best of any tyre Ive ever had, have had it leant over to the very edge on both sides
Rear is also pretty good but like others Ive experienced the occasional movement under hard throttle, easily corrected though, possibly attributed to the large thread depth allowing alot of flex in the tire.Overall Im very happy so far, having gone through 2 sets of Qualifiers which I absolutely loved but was getting frustrated with the lack of mileage they were good for,I find these to be a very suitable tire as an all rounder.
I am mounting a rear PR3 on the 1000RR this weekend. Once I put on some miles I will report the results. I currently run regular Powers and got about 2500 miles on them, but with two track days. Unfortunately I have worn out the middle of the rear tire before the sides again.
The front looks great though.
have you considered roadsmarts? supposed to be good too.
Hey Smokin'
As a consideration, I tried a set of 2CTs at the beginning of march.. 5200 miles later, rear was blistered, front had a fine stripe of tread in the middle.. The 2001 Shawk suspension is completely done(GMDcomputrack)
Back to the BattleAxes.. S20. with a couple of months of riding left..
The set seemed to track well, there did to be a bit of drift on the rear(even when well heated) only when pushed really hard.
My brother is still riding on the Pilot Road3s, I will check with him-to ask where he is on the mileage...

Road Pilot
Went from Battax (sp?) to the Road Pilot on my ZRX. It made it a whole new bike. Corners like it was on rails. Put them on my Hawk and took both bikes to Deals Gap. Too much fun...Really happy with road pilot..
