motor noise between 2000 2500 rpm

Hi,
sometimes noise can be listened from right side and near rear cylinder.
First I was thinking it was a clutch or transmission problem but with clutch lever pulled or not, still noise around 2000 2500 rpm.
No noise at idle. Noise could not be listen after 3000 rpm.
Noise seems to be listened around middle temp, no noise or less at high temp and cold start.

Gas leak from the exhaust? Get somebody to put their gloved hands over both the exhaust outlets and listen closely at manifold and header link pipe joins.

While not my VTR, my 1989 Honda TransAlp with about 150,000 miles on it, does that when it "wants" an oil/filter change. About 2500 miles. Been doing it for over 100,000 miles. Not a clue why.

Yes good idea ! I will try !!!

@YMRacing, Just have changed oil & oil filter last week but same behaviour. Will change the AIR filter in some days. (+15 000 kms 5 years usage)

I guessing that with 119 posts you've had the bike for a while. The engines on these bikes have a lot of mechanical noise, so I'm assuming that the sound you are referring to is new. Could it be that it has always been there and you haven't noticed it before?

Listening to the video I'm not sure what sound is the one in question. The whirling, higher pitched sound?

Not saying that the sound you are asking about is a result of, but I noticed what looks to be auto cam chain tensioners. You might want to review the issues that can be caused by their failure.

HI Xeris, I have listen this sound for at least 2000 miles.
it's a tic tic tic sound that follow the engine rpm.

First, I was thinking that it was relative to gear box+ wheel chain. I replaced the entire kit.
I thought the sound was solved but I noticed it very quickly after.
The sound volume is not always the same.
Perhaps it is related to cam chain tensioners but I want to be sure before operation. Perhaps it's just the valve clearence too high ? (I checked myself at 26 000 kms 10 years ago and it was ok, now 40.000).
I think there is a exhaust gas leak I'm pretty sure but maybe there is another additionnal problem to fix.

Personally have never had valve clearances increase/loosen on shim/buckets.

I have changer the air filter yestersday without fixing that noise. (idle seems to increase 100 rpm from 1300 to 1400)
I have checked for an exhaust leak (using method told above) but found nothing (I only detect the little hole at the bottom of the stock exhaust pipes that drain water off I imagine)
Using a big screwdriver I tried to listen the cam chain. No "tic tic tic" sound just a more audible "shhhhh" noise. Gear box / clutch : nothing.
The screwdriver does not increase this noise wherever I try.
The noise just seems to be located at the top cover of rear cylinder.
I noticed that with high temp (+105°) , this noise was very low.
It seems to decrease between 90° to 110°c

This morning I listen another time at cold start : I heard ssome imilar little noise from front cylinder that disappears quickly.

Maybe it's juste valve clearances a little high ? And since i've not used this old bike for a while (I mainly use my VFR1200X) I'm "paranoid" ?

There is a "Check Valve" which is on the cylinder head cover which is used for the Secondary air supply system (Emissions ETC) that goes to the exhaust to stop "backfiring" and "popping".
Maybe that is chattering at certain speeds and temp....Yes?

I've disabled this "pair valve" some years ago ! Maybe should I reverse to original install ?
Just have done this step:
"Take out the screw and flip upsidedown the reed keeper. This will keep the reed from opening. Then put it back on your head and cap off the opening"

Did I miss something ?
Checked for manifold exhaust leaks, Turn about 1/2 turn the bolts at head and rear pipes but with no luck.

Hi guys,

Have revert the pair mod yesterday with no success.
When I start the engine with the tank off, I ve been able to confirm that the noise is not located at the top of cylinder. The sound is coming from a location near the spark plug. Inside the chamber ?
Could it be a bad explosion ? Bad spark plug / iginition at moderate temp at this engine rpm ? I replaced spark plugs it at 25 000 kms in .... 2005 so...14 years from now.. (41 000 kms now)
I also noticed again that as the motor is warming up above"moderate temp" to high temp (fan starts) , the noise disappears.

Maybe at this 2500 rpm, there is some place between the piston and cylinder that generates this "tic tic tic" noise, and with another engine rpm 'better motor balance between cylinders" or temp (less place due to dilation) , the noise disappears ?
