Question Melting Cluster ?

Has anyone else had the top of there speedo housing start melting ? It seems like the bulbs at the top inside the cluster are generating too much heat . Kind of resembles a cigarette burn . I have never been in the cluster for any reason . Bulbs are factory . Just wondering if this is a common problem ?

the times I've heard of it had more to do with the aftermarket screens than anything else. I do not think stock it occurs. I think its the sun being focused by the diouble bubble type screens onto the instrument glass (when sun is directed to the inside of the screen. Park out of sun, different angle or change screens. Others can chime in.

I see you listed you have a double bubble windscreen. I know on the 98-99 900rr they acted like a magnifing glass in the sun and melted the gauge clusters. Had it happen to my 98 900rr. Wonder if that is what's happening? Can you post pics of the melted erea?

Like these other guys have said, I've only heard of the windscreen causing the problem you are talking about.

You guys are right ! I didnt notice it until after the DBL bubble was installed . Bike was on the trailer for a couple of hours that day in the sun . Guess that would do it .. Duh !

Happens to Hondas all the time. VTR AND CBR both have the same thing.
