Leaking Petcock

My petcock diaphragm is leaking. The bike is running rich as a result. I went to my local Honda dealer and they said I had to buy the whole petcock. I then went to the local independent shop and they said they would order the diaphragm kit. 6 weeks later it is still backordered. Does anyone here know where I might get one?

I thought of eliminating the diaphragm, but I am not sure I want to count on the floats. Any thoughts?

You're right in not counting on the floats. If a piece of dirt or varnish gets wedged in the inlet valve, you could end up with hydrostatic lock in one of the cylinders (fills up with gas).

How much is the whole petcock?

$150.00 for a new one. $38.00 for the kit.

If I recall correctly the Goldwing 1500 kit can be used, but you have to keep the spring (or something like that) from your petcock and not use the one in the kit.

The main thing is that the diaphragm is the same from the Goldwing kit and that is what you need.

edit: "Also, I should mention that I bought a petcock repair kit from carbkitcapital for a GL1500 aspencade (91-95). The large diaphragm (the one that tears) fit fine, however the smaller plug element would not seal... it looked identical but the lip was not thick enough, and gas was leaking out of the vent. So... look out for that."

But he still had issues with getting it to seal.

I found a place on E-bay that had stock on them for $21 plus $5 shipping. Should be here in a few days.

If anyone else needs this kit the guy has at least 7 left.

Yes that is the link. I checked the part number and it is the one for the VTR1000.

Sorry for the lack of info, I was just so excited!

$15

Honda of St. John's over here in Portland OR got me an aftermarket rebuild kit for like $15-16 or something over the summer. I'll try to look around for the packaging in the garage when I get home in a bit - I'm just about to go out for a small flight in a minute or two.

Thanks for the link guys. Soon I shall have a diaphragm in my petcock. I've been going without one for a while.
