Jumped Time

Hi all. New to the forum but I’ve been a biker all my life. I just bought a 1998 Superhawk with 51k, non-running, and found that the rear cylinder has jumped time and bent the exhaust valves. I haven’t confirmed the front cylinder yet.

Is it possible to pull both heads without pulling the motor?

From what I’ve read the fix is to replace the cct with oem? Does anyone make a manual cct?

Is the recommendation to change the timing chain as well?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. I’m an experienced mechanic so I know I can do the repair, just wondering how big of a job is going to be.

It can be done, I have done it. Though I recommend pulling the motor for ease of access. There are many choices for manual CCT's but I can only recommend APE from experience. Otherwise you can rebuild the old one by following this video link:
If you want to take it a step further you can replace the spring with one that has been cryogenically treated and thermally coated for extended life. I have reused my chains several times now with no issue, if you want to replace them they are not too expensive even from Honda. It's also a good time to replace the valve springs while you are in there with a set from Kibblewhite. Good luck.

The spring on my CCT broke, where can you buy the replacement spring to rebuild the CCT?

Best dispose the auto CCTs and fit manual tensioners.

I buy used tensioners off ebay then have the springs coated and treated. I can have new ones made by a local company but not enough people are interested to justify the expense.
