Another CCT victom!!
Well I noticed about 1 month ago my rear cylinder was getting loud so about 1 week ago I ordered both cct for front and rear well I 7 dayed the ccts and continued to ride well sure enough bam there goes my rear exhaust valves Im so mad 73 bucks a piece for the ccts. when I pulled the valve cover off I saw the exhuast cam jumped about 4 teeth I inpected the tentioner and I could compress it with my hand When I pulled the cylinder looks like the piston is ok. New exhaust valves are $50.00 a piece so their on order with valve stem seals $11 and I forgot to order a head gasket. Total cost of repair so far $290.00 minus the head gasket and coolant and more labor time than Im happy with. 21,000 miles what a shame. Dont under stand why honda could not build a cct for the superhawk. Heard all these problems with cam chain tentioners when I bought the bike. believe me it is a very real problem and it SUCKS!!!!!

What year is your bike?
One of my riding buddies has a 2000 with 43,000 miles on his and the original CCT.
Sorry to hear about your CCT hope you get it back together without too much headaches.

Is there a non auto CCT option? A very popular MOD for my curent ride, the Suzuki DRZ. And the unit that fits, comes from a Busa

Re: Another CCT victom!!
engine was not broken ran fine just noisey I noticed it getting noisey about a little over a month ago I ordered the cct a little over a week ago started it up and it jumped about 4 teeth on the exhaust side tentioner was completly junk mine is a 98 model the front cylinder however is completely fine. So I guess you can say I rode for a month and a half before I did anything about it so I guess I asked for it it could have been longer not really sure cct should not go bad!!!

Sorry to hear it. I went through 3 rear CCTs in 13k miles on my Y2K. The first one went out in the first year under warranty and the 2nd and 3rd within a year of each other so Honda kept replacing them free. Finally got sick of the bike being in the shop and bought the APEs. No probs since.

Re: Another CCT victom!!
I am having APEs installed over the winter.
My mechanic said that he had a VTR in, and the tensioners looked fine on it, the owner was going to change for the manual ones after a trip he was taking, apparently the tensioners didn't agree with that assesment, and cause some damage.
It doesn't matter how many mile you have on your bike it is cheap insurance, DO IT NOW!

Re: Another CCT victom!!
Well I got my motor all put back together took the opertunity to check remove and clean all the valves and de carbon the heads I was suprised to see no valves needed ajusted in 22,000 miles is this a common theme owners are seeing. Anyway the bike is back together and pures like a kitten no more knocking I have learned my lesson I also learned that engine ice is not worth the money period!!! my bike runs just as hot as it did with the old stuff right at the half way point.

Re: Another CCT victom!!
haynes manual reccomends valve adjustment after 18,000 miles, so it looks like you've gotten a bit extra. I'm not surprised. they may never need adjusting. thank you honda. take a lesson ducati.
