Help! Lurching and dying above 5K RPM

Just replace my R/R and battery and installed an HID kit. Took it out for a ride and noticed around 4500-5K it started lurching and when I gassed it it would die. What could cause this? Bike was in great shape and running fine beforehand.

I noticed that there is no mention of TPS adjustment in you signature/mod description. Mine's a 98 also and this made a huge difference when it started to act up spontaneously one day. They're typically out of adjustment.

Found it. Cracked vacuum hose and carbs out of sync. But good to know about PVLIR.

good you got things sorted out. what did you use to sync the carbs? I can understand the vacuum hose causing your condition, but not the carb sync. Next time you're under the tank, look at the TPS to see if it still has the original rivets, or if it been moved because if it hasn't, it could likely be out of spec as they usually are.

If you dont have the proper guages, you can substitute with two small kittens.
Stuff them butt first into the venturis, and observe how deep their eyeballs recede when reving up motor.

Tried the kitten thing but it ended really badly.
When the bike cut off I was on my way to work and was literally passing by my honda dealer and was able to coast and push in and drop it off and go to work. They were the ones who found the leak and adjusted the carbs. They also managed to drop my bike and break the custom painted mirror. I love dealers.

well then, that xplains the carb sync. sucks when you get one thing fixed and break another, huh? costly lesson.
