Bike sputtering and dying

So I went for a ride and made it 30 miles and bike just sputtered like it was out of gas and died. Had almost a full tank. Looked at my fuel lines and everything's good. Took off again and 2 min. Later did the same thing. It will sit and idle just fine, but holding it open at 2k it will click and kinda bog down. Took tank and airbox out and saw the little foam under the black caps in the airbox has a big whole in it. Could that be causing it to die?

Check the battery voltage.

Probably your regulator

Indeed, check battery voltage

Have you done any work to the bike lately, i.e. take the tank off? If so, sounds to me like PVLIR.

I did that. It made it all of thirty feet. 30 miles. I don't think so.

Get some SeaFoam or Heet in your fuel system and start using at least a few capfuls with every tank. This comes up every year at about this time of the year with our bikes. The Superhawk is not a happy camper when she is cold - less so when she is wet and cold. DO NOT just pull the choke and walk away. I pull full choke on cold start but only hold that for 45-90 seconds or it starts to load. I push it in to about 30% and it loafs and lurches but eventually starts to warm up and smooth out. The point is - don't foul the plugs.

The voltage while running should be between 13.5V to 14.5V, if it's below it will be either R/R or Battery
BTW, If you have to jump start it from a car, don't run the car while boosting, the car charging system push very high Amp's, it's a common mistake that will fry the R/R if it's not died already.
Good Luck

The foam your talking about should be intact. The hole in the middle is the breather vent which is normal.... any other holes in it is not.
If you see any foam bits in the tray thats not good. It can cause the bike to run bad as the foam can go into your carbs.
When I first bought my bike, it ran ok but when I went to take the carbs off for a cleaning, I found bits of foam in the vacuum diaphrams!
I had some extra foam and just made new ones.

Yeah I cleaned all the deteriorated foam out of there and just made new ones also. I had just replaced the battery cuz I thought it went bad. It was at like 10.5v and my new battery was at 11.2 already. So now I have to 2 good batteries and a bad regulator...
