Aside from your technique, you can improve the gearshift a LOT on the VTR.

Do a search on this forum and you will find information on a few mods -:

* Moving the shifter shaft on the spline to improve the angle.

* Installing Factory Pro parts

* Installing heim joints in the shifter linkages.

These mods will improve the gearshift an amazing amount.
