Gas tank question
Im doing a resto/custom build. I need a gas tank, I read somewhere there are differences in the years but cant remember where I saw it? Anyway i have a 05 vtr and was wondering what tanks will work...? All of them?

Correct me if I am wrong....But the newer US VTR's with the LCD readouts would likely be a different fuel sensor...the older VTR with analog gauges would be the float.
I have a 1998 VTR and my gas tank sensor is a crude looking float.
Don't get me wrong, fuel gauges are overrated...unless you are doing long haul trips...I always check my fuel tank each day and also every hour of riding. However, I live in CA, Bay Area Silicon Valley...there is a fuel station every couple miles. Back when I was in Michigan...not so much.

I hugely disagree. I upgraded my 98 to have a fuel guage (and digital dash & speedo) and its a million times better than opening your fuel tank or waiting for an archaic low fuel light. (or worse just running out & switching to reserve)
If you count miles you can never be sure of consumption since city & hiway are so different.

If ever you get a pre '01 gas tank for your '05, and wish to keep the sensor
in your dash, it can easily be done. Just swap the sensor, and before inserting the float type sensor back in the tank, you need to bend the float arm a little in order for it to clear the internals inside.
Pre '01's have different internals then post '01, so, if you wish to keep accurate gas readings, that's the way to do it.
