Cost getting Carbs cleaned
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at a superhawk tomorrow that sat for 2 years.
The guy who's selling told me that he's cleaned up the carbs and she runs good.
To gauge how well he's done his work is a cold start a good test of the carbs were done right?
If I do need to have a mechanic re-do em, what's the cost of that?
Thanks.

If it sat for 2 years even if he said he cleaned the carbs I would go through everything... full fluid and filter flushes and changes, check spark plugs and I would rebuild the carbs and clean them install new gaskets...
I would also inspect your floats as they are plastic and can get saturated with fuel...
Best Carb parts cleaner I've used is pinesol...
These bikes are very easy to work on with basic hand tools. Just do your research...

You're right though. It's my choice too.
Anyway....
No mechanic necessary. There's a few .pdf service manuals online and YouTube is also a great resource. Invest in some simple tools along with your new bike. ie: socket set, allen's, torque wrench, rubber mallet etc..... LOTS of rags and gloves.....
And to reinforce what Scottiemann said.... Replace all the depreciable vitals no matter what the dude told you he did. ie: pads, filters, fluids and maybe seals and gaskets. Clean the holy hell out of everything you feel confident enough to get to. Good luck!

I am fairly new to the SHF as well. This is a great forum full of experienced riders with great info who are straight and to the point. I've been riding for 24 years and I always learn something new here. Conversely:
On the Gixxer forum, which i also frequent for obvious reasons, you get a lot of 21 yo squids who ride helmet-less while standing on their rear pegs giving you advice.
SuperHawk riders are a tad more refined. Lol.....

Thanks for all your support guys, I must say I've learned a tone of stuff all ready.
If luck has it I'll get my 1st superhawk tomorrow. Everybody told me to get an SV650 but I guess for now my heart is set on the SH.
Cheers!
