Cost price dealerships get?
I'm looking into buying a Superhawk, preferably the 03 if not an 05. But I'm looking around for the cost price the dealers get the bikes at. I'm trying not to get screwed because they're 9,299 so close to 11k OTD which I'm not too happy about.
Any and all information would be really helpful. Thanks.

I am not sure about the cost price they get. However, with the number of recent, high end I4 liter bikes that are showing up on the showroom floors over the last couple of years, most dealers are having a very hard time selling the good old Superhawk at the $11k OTD range. Most recently, I have seen a couple of years old NEW ones advertised and sold for about 7.5-8k OTD.
Good luck finding your bike. It is one of the best bikes out there.

Re: Cost price dealerships get?
Thank you very much. That's what the guy up at the Honda shop told me. He said he could order me a brand new 03 for about 7,800 not including TT&L. So, I wanted to know how much I could possibly talk him down or take less than 9k OTD or maybe have them throw in some frame sliders and maybe a new helmet or some sort.
From all the research I've done, it just sounds like this bike is for me. I even had a dream about it last night. Pretty sad huh?
Thanks,
Kathryn

Re: Cost price dealerships get?
Well, it's been over 20 years ago (YIKES) since I sold Honda's but back then it was about 17%. But that was for a current model year bike. There are all kinds of factory deals, rebates, floorplanning incentives, etc for non-current models. Another thing to consider is if the dealer does have a current model on the floor (in inventory) vs ordering a non-current. It's usually more of an incentive to sell the floor model.

lol Yes sir, I saw your picture and was like I know him! Yep, on another forum. I'm trying to do lots of homework and research on this bike. I want to be absolutely sure I this is what I want and this is what I can pay for without financially killing myself in the process.
Hey wood, where abouts in Austin are ya? I've got a bike now, but it's a little cruiser, A to B kind of bike but I like her, she's been good.
Newer model would be nice as well.. wouldn't make me cry that's for sure.

I picked up my new '02 last year (May 04) for $7600 OTD, and the dealer had another one in the back in a crate. One thing to note: if the bike has been sitting in the showroom for 2+ years, check the tires. I can't even find the Dunlop 204's that came on mine anymore, aside from the fact that they suck.

A bike that has been sitting for a year or two will need its liquids changed (usually done by a good mechanic for $100 or so at the most), but the tires must still be good, at least for the first 3k miles or so while you are getting used to the rest of the bike.

Very interesting.. never thought about that. He said he could order one but I'll definitely check tires and fluids if I decide to get it.
Another thing is.. before I even make a decision about putting money down, you think the dealer would actually sit down with me and figure out financing before I say yeh or neh? I'm wanting to do that so I know what's coming instead of agreeing to buy then getting slapped in the face with a crap load of interest.
Definitely wouldn't make me happy considering I'm only working 20 hours a week and going to school. Grr

I'm thinking you want new so you can finance it? There's beautiful used ones that have lots of extra's with them going for alot less than new. IMO you should go talk to you bank (or shop the loan) and get a good rate and the money in your pocket, then go shopping

The dealer should run your credit, see what kind of rates they can offer you, provide you with an exact amount of total out the door cost, monthly payments, total number of payments, total cost of borrowing (total amount of interest that you are paying over the term of the purchase)... all of this can (and should) be done before you sign any papers or hand any money.
I also suggest that you check online, see peoplefirst.com (which is now capitalone or something), and get a load from them (for lower rates), and then, if you can find a good used one, get a used one, if not, at least you would know what rates your interest is going to be.
Remember, every credit check from a vendor appears on your record, and it affects it negatively (although very slightly), so you don't want to have 20 dealers running your credit... limit it to two or three inquiries.

Yea, I sat down with myself today and figured out with my income and what not..food..utility bills, phone bills.. etc that there's no way I can afford a new one. Not even the 03 they can order for two grand less.
I'd love to get a used one. I found an 03 with a kicka$$ alarm, bunch of goodies including yoshimura slip ons. Sounded so mean. Made me proud lol.
I don't want to screw myself over. I have no credit at this point. But I'm starting to work and dad and I have discussed a secure credit card (think that's what you call em) where you give them 200 bucks then when you spend so much of that you give them more which gives you credit as long as you pay it off.
But who knows, maybe I'll just torture myself and wait a couple years and save up some good cash. I know I can wait, it's just the fact that I don't want to.

Here we are, 5 months later, and that deal is still happening. Someone's got to want to scoop up a brand new super chicken for 6 g's.
BTW- I'm new here, and happy to be the owner of a brand new '05.
