Carb Questions
Carb Questions
Just bought a superhawk with Erion cans and dirty carbs, also picked up a spare set of carbs from craigs list as well. Began to dissassemble both sets and and I noticed there are some differences between the two sets. I should say that the bike has a California title and I'm in michigan. The first difference being that the original carbs had a slide spring about 6" or so long and the ones I picked up locally have a 12" spring, next the slide on the original had one hole and the 2 that were open on the other carbs were either not drilled or blocked. The needle heights were different also, I pulled the needles on the ones I got locally and the washer is .020 thick (stock?) What I was wondering does anybody recognize which is stock (local ones?) and what kit might have been installed on the modded carbs? Thanks!
The ones with the short spring has a dynojet kit in it. But are you saying it only has one lift hole on the slide not three?
As for the second set, your description was a bit confusing. Does the second set of carbs have adjustable needles? Was there a .020" washer on both the front and rear needle?

Yes one hole, im going to pull the needle tomorrow to check if they have a clip. The needles on the second set are not adjustable,I havent pulled the other needle but will tomorrow. Thanks for the reply, I will update more Sunday.
The holes that appear to be blocked are in fact not blocked and the needles have a clip. front carb had a 175 main and the rear had a 180. I think I will install the dynojet hardware and stock air filter in the MI carbs, start with the recommended jetting, and go from there. Thanks for your help!

So as I read. install 48 pilots, shim needles .040 rear .030 front, install the (spare) long velocity stack on the front carb ( no hole plugging needed). Leave the stock mains and air filter installed and adjust air/fuel screw. Any one run this set up on a dyno?
