Sputtering and cuttin out?
Hey guys my VTR 1000 is sputterin and cuttin out, I dont know anything about these. Adjusting the idle doesnt help. I noticed also it looks like to vaccum ports that come off the base of the carburator in a Y are open, theres no lines goin to em and there not plugged. Could that be it? When you rev it, it hesitates and sputters and cuts out, also at a steady rpm. Any ideas. Thanks again guys this website has been a ton of help.

Not much information to go on, but working from free to cheap, assuming that you have tools and the haynes manual...
old or bad or contaminated gas
water in the float bowls
plugged gas tank vent
cracked vacuum line to petcock
leaking or loose carb boots
corrosion on the connectors for the ignition system
free tune up done by a new friend
The official Honda shop manual has an excellent diagnostic chart, but only you know the recent history, when the symptom occurred, and your set up. Need more information to narrow the suggestions for remediation.

I'd guess it's either the vacuum port/hose or the TPS. The front vacuum port is plugged at the venturi, the rear has the hose running to the petcock. Make sure this hose is attached to the vacuum port on the petcock.
A poorly adjusted TPS will also manifest this way. See your Svc Manual.

I dont think they were drained, my brother took off too the army and just left it in my garage, and I dont know much about bikes. It has the same gas in it since he left. I dont think he did anything to it. would running a bottle of carb cleaner through it help?

Carb cleaner could help. My personal favorite is Seafoam as this will absorb any water too. Drain/syphon out the tank, fill with fresh gas and 1/3 can seafoam. If it improves, add another third next fill up.
Since it has been sitting and you don't know how your brother left it, change the oil & filter (easy), replace the plugs (bit more involved, read through the manual)

Ya i changed the oil already. I just had the bike down to the carbs checkin things out. I took the petcock apart but couldnt get it all the way out. Seems its getting gas through it tho. When I first put the tank back on and fired it up it didnt sputter or hesitate. Reved real smooth. Then after i put it all back together (seat, tank and so on) It started sputterin and crap again. Where is the gas tank vent located, could that be causing the problem?
