Are you checking the oil on the stand or with the bike upright? It has to be balanced exacly upright to give an accurate view.

Also changing the filter requires a bit extra oil to fill it. (as opposed to no filter change)

If you know you filled it, and you know it's not leaking out in large amounts on the ground... Start and run it for a min to circulate.. shut off and let sit a few minutes.. Bike off the stand, straight up and down. Should have oil between the marks.

What they said. If you check for oil on the side stand it will look like there is nothing in there. On a very related note, do not fill up to the fill line on the side stand.

From the Honda Service Manual downloadable PDF (workshop knowledgebase)

Engine oil capacity (After draining/filter change) 3.9L (4.1 US qt , 3.4 Imp qt) - 4.8 US qt after an engine rebuild.

If the bike is upright and its not leaking then it sounds like you drained it extremely well! Keep topping up in small increments, turn engine over & let oil settle for a few minutes and check level. Rinse & repeat till it comes up half-way.

Makes me wonder if the new oil looks so clean that you can't see it.
See if the window looks different with the bike on the sidestand as opposed to straight up and down.

see that's what i had thought also. but i kicked up the stand and tilted the bike as far over as i could to see if it would wash up and away and see something from it. but it may be very clear that it would be hard to see. but thanks for the help guys!

Are you sure that you put the drain plug in before the new oil. My buddy had all his new oil go into the pan of old oil. Haha. He was wondering the same thing

yea, some of the newer oils are nearly clear and hard to even notice in the sight glass until you run the engine for a bit and dirty the oil up.

Clean oil pan, drain, measure. shold be just over 3.5 qt in your pan (dont remove the filter)

In 40 years of motorcycles, I don’t think I have ever checked the oil after filling with fresh. It comes in measured containers. I pour in a measured amount. If it's not dripping or pouring on the ground, it's in the motor.
