APE CCT "click" noise when adjusting

So long story short I installed my APE CCT's following the directions. All went well in the installation, but being a dumb *** I second guessed myself. So i figured I tightened the rear cct to much so I was backing it out slowing and heard a ''click". I then said oh **** and tightened it up slightly and heard another "click" while tightening it slowly.

Question is, did I jump a tooth and then bring it back by tightening or should I redo the cct rear install and but the chain back.

Any help would be great

So i went to fix the problem like in the KB section states and I stupidly loosened the CCT first then went to find TDC.

See the post below for picture of my Off timing.... Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this issue!!!!!!

Reread Calitoz's KB article on replacing the CCT's. Remove the rear spark plug to make rotating the piston easier. Locate "RT" in the timing hole and make sure the cam lobes are pointing inward and up. Determine which mark on the cam wheel is flush with the cylinder head, the other will need to be rotated manually so that it is flush with the cylinder head opposite the other cam wheel. Rotate the crankshaft another 360 degrees to make sure the cam marks are correct in relation to the cylinder head.

Pages 8-20 through 8-23 of the service manual (downloadable here: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/219618/VT...3_VTR1000F.pdf if you don't have it) show the timing method.

Precisely why I'll be paying someone to install my CCT's.

F*ck if I know. Just make sure you don't start the engine 'till you do.

timing chain may be moved by by relaxing the CCT and removing 1 cam sprocket enough to jump the chain by hand. You MUST be on TDC firing stroke of the cyl your working on, cam lobes OFF the valves. I have noticed that the desired timing will NOT line up both cams w/RT or FT marks exactly and you want the cam sprockets lined up with the topline of the head, which they will do, and it will be just prior to the RT or FT lining up in the sight window. My experience on two hawk engines. Be sure to run the engine thru by hand a couple times and recheck everything to make exactly sure before attempting to start engine, and you'll be OK. I have my ape CCT's set to finger tight at TDC fire stroke, then back off about 1/2turn, and they run fine. Haven't bothered or needed to readjust beyond that.
