JE Pistons

Just ordered a set of custom JE Pistons at 0.50mm oversized, so I have a set of STD 98mm 11.5:1 compression pistons, pins, clips & rings for sale. They are coated on skirts and crowns.

I paid $350 delivered for slugs and $75 for the rings. Let me know if you're interested? SOLD - THANKS ZMANIV!

or is there enough meat there?

I think you'd be fine with just +2mm overbore. Cylinder wall thickness is not the issue - it's cost. I'd try to use RC51 rings, that would keep the costs down. I wonder if you could use standard RC51 pistons too? Maybe high-compression versions? That would really make it an affordable operation!

Jamie, I looked at the RC51 piston option, but they are different in too many ways opening up a can of worms with custom rods and custom crank/rebalanced...so I'm sticking with the 0.50mm overbore.

Does anyone know for a fact if Honda OEM 0.50mm oversized rings are same thickness as STD 98mm OEM rings? JE Pistons needs to know before machining the custom pistons...Thanks!

Roger tells me the ring thickness is the same for both STD & oversized rings. He's a wealth of knowledge and great guy too!

I'm running +0.50mm pistons in my engine. I went with stock parts because JE are a bunch a dicks and ticked me off. Turds! I'll go with Weisco or Arias next time, I've always had good luck with both of them.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience...

I don't deal with JE directly but through one of their distributors: highperformanceonline.com and they have been great to deal with!

Sorry, it's been so long since I gave an update, but it seems I've just been waiting around on parts to show up...I did receive the 0.50mm OS High Comp JE Pistions and the machinist now has them along with the rings & block in order to get the bores just right, so I'll have to wait on that work to be done before final assembly can start...

In the meantime, I'll be cutting in the 3 angle valve sets this week and installing the OS Morwi valves and Morwi STG 1 cams so the heads will be all ready to bolt on once the block comes in...

I'll take some more pics soon and post'em up...RC

Glad to see things are moving ahead for you again Rick. Should be a blast when you get that engine all bolted together and running

Let me know if you have any questions.

Make sure that you check concentricity of the seat to the valve guide frequently. Blue the valve seat and insert the valve and spin it with the rubber hose to be sure it contacts all the way around.

That is the trickiest part of using those cutters. It's easy to side-load it, which causes a loss of concentricity.

take some pics. this is still a process that confuses me. Would love to see your steps and hear from others with experience what the nuances are of the process

thanks, you must be dying to get things done!

Will do Bill, not dying to get done cuz it's kinda off season for us down here now cuz it's so danged hot! So as long as I have her put together by this Fall it's all good...riding in 98 degree heat with 100% humidity is not my idea of fun, but I usually ride at least once a week to keep fuel fresh and battery charged, both mine and the bikes'

If you have a stock flywheel my advise to one and all is to lighten it cuz with a crank this heavy the heavier flywheel is overkill...RC
Okay, got my lightened flywheel back and here's some pics...anybody care to guess what it weighs now and what the weight loss was?

Rick, did you trim a set measure off the diameter or did you have it machined to Roger D`s specs? Mine is a Roger D version FWIW

Did you weigh the stock pistons Rick? I see the new slugs are listed at 390 g. Was wonderign how much lighter that is than stock (I seem to recall teh stockers weighing in the neighborhood of 443 g for some reason)

Nope, still have the rods on the old ones, so I will let you know when I can weigh them...
