Swingarm is now braced

I just got a call from the chap who I got to weld on the 900RR brace to my swngarm and the job is done (cost me $100 CDN). I`ll be picking it up on Friday, then it`s off to the powdercoater`s to get it done in semi-gloss black (along with the footrest brackets and rear caliper bracket). I ordered up some new bearings and seals for the arm too so it`ll be good as new (actually better) when it install it. I`ll be repacking the linkage bearings too while I`m at it. Can`t wait to have it on and put it through the wringer

They look awesome. Looks like they all should've come that way in the first place. Be sure to post up some more pics of that awesome bike when you get it all together.

Will post pics when it's all together. I am quite looking forward to it

P.S. Along with my snazzy new Jamie D machined shift lever and Heim-joints. Should make shifting a real joy too

One you get that installed and ride the bike you'll have to let me know what you think. A couple of years ago I installed an RC45 throttle tube which converted it to about 1/4 turn. It lasted two days because I hated it. Parking lots were a nightmare and I could barely make it up my 200' gravel driveway without kicking it totally sideways. It was actually pretty unsafe, 1/6 throttle sounds even worse. I've heard of others doing this and they liked it. Maybe it was just me!

Will do Jamie

BTW, I am currently running the RC45 tube and like it. I tend to like quick action throttles (on bikes and snowmobiles anyhow) so I should like this too. If I don't however, it is a quick return to what I now have.

cheers

re: throttle tube. Will be good to hear your reaction. I agree with Jamie and had the same impression also after trying an RC HRC throttle. I think a better solution might be the ramped throttle tubes they sell for some dirt bikes - so the transitions and small throttle movements are actually slowed down (throttle:carb) for better control and then the ratio is increased at full throttle.

I did my DIY version of that... Take a thin strip of plastic 2-3mm in thickness and file a groove in it for the throttle cable... stick it in there and test it... Just lift the cover part of the throttle...

The effect is like the ramped ones... Dunno what ratio mine is, but I got it to where I like it... nice and precise at small throttle opening and increasing att full throttle...

I'm curious of the weight difference on the swingarm before and after. Looking forward to pics also.

I haven't weighed the new braced unit (picked it up this morning) but he brace was quite light (aluminum after all). I cut all the unnecessary brackets off today and dropped off the arm, footrest brackets and rear caliper bracket off at the powdercoater's this PM. Can't wait to get it all back (in semi-gloss black).

cheers

LOL I actually went on exactly one ride down the street with it to get pizza before I took the bike home, took it all apart and decided to replace it with a custom sp2 swingarm, and the bikes been apart ever since, thanks mostly to my obsession with never allowing this bike to be finished, several fabricators who kept ******* it up, and having no time between a few long stories and now going back to college and working.

Anyway you could get a better answer a few posts up from FL02SupaHawk996, it's now on his bike and unlike me he actually rides his instead of just staring at in the corner like I do If nothing else it looked awesome, and I think really complimented the rest of bike well. I like mods that only look like mods to someone familiar with the bike.

Is the difference noticible and positive with braced swingarm for street riding, especially in that the hawk was intended to flex somewhat?

thanks, nathan

I am really looking forward to it, that and the modified shock (being able to adjust both hi and low-speed compression damping will be a lovely thing). Time to get the old girl out fo hibernation soon!

Just picked up and un-wrapped the parts. Everything looks pretty good although I will have to put the wire wheel to a few spots (nothing major). The finish is a bit glossier thtan I had hoped but, all in all, it looks pretty good. Can't wait to see everything mounted!
